Honoring our Veterans
To our veterans: a grateful nation offers our salute to you this Veterans Day. I’ll never forget the pride and emotion I felt when visiting the National World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C. for the first time, days before its dedication. Standing below the Kansas pillar, I called my dad – a World War II army veteran – to tell him how much I respected him, how grateful I was for him and that I loved him. I hope we can all echo those words to our veterans each and every day: we respect you, we thank you for your service and we love you.
Thank you for bravely answering the call to defend our country.

I'm Jerry Moran and I want to take this
Veterans Day opportunity to say I'm so grateful to the veterans of our country
and particularly those in Kansas. My family and I, and in fact, our
country wouldn't be, we wouldn't have the opportunities we have today and
the country wouldn't be what it is today without the sacrifice and courage of those
who served in our military. The individuals who answered the call to defend our country
and the ideals on which our country is founded and a grateful nation offers our salute
to you this Veterans Day. It's so essential, it's important that our veterans receive
the support and the resources that they deserve every day of the year and while this
is Veterans Day we want to make certain that you're not forgotten any other day, as well.
Meaningful employment, quality and timely healthcare, educational benefits, must be
available to those who served our country and particularly those as they now transition
to civilian life. On this Veterans Day, I want to reaffirm my commitment to see that our
nation's heroes come first and I'll work to be a voice for our veterans as a member of
the United States Senate. If you or your family member or someone you know ever
needs any assistance in working with the VA please reach out to me. Please talk to me and
my staff and make sure we go to work, we go to bat, on your behalf. I extend my gratitude to you who served and for your devotion to the United States
of America and to people who live across the country and communities across our state. All of you have made tremendous sacrifices for this nation and you remain in our thoughts
and our prayers. As I told my dad when I called him from the
World War II memorial: "Dad I want you to know that I respect you,
I thank you for your service and I love you." And that's what we should say to veterans
today and every other day of the year.
