I hereby challenge Marcella Liburd to a debate on Monday 9th February 2015 at 5:00PM. on the corner of Central Street and Fiennes Avenue. Marcella come and debate me on the issues and let the people of Central Basseterre determine who they want to represent them for the next five years. 1st February, 2015 Ms. Marcella Liburd Bird Rock St. Kitts Dear Ms. Liburd The future of the people of Central Basseterre is a matter of great concern to me and consequently, it is my belief that they deserve honest leadership, provided by a Parliamentary Representative who is always dedicated to serving their needs. Central Basseterre is a community that is comprised of proud and patriotic citizens of all persuasions and their needs vary according to their social and economic circumstances. But if there is one common expectation; it is that they demand representation that focuses on their needs, not those of the one they previously elected. They demand representation by someone who genuinely cares about them. They deserve representation by someone who puts their needs first and who is always around to be accessible to them to hear their stories of pain, suffering and expectations, not only for them, but mostly for their children and for their future. They say that they are tired of electing representatives who afterwards turn their backs on them. They say that they are tired of voting for someone who has betrayed their trust and who has abandoned them for five years…someone who has used and abused them. They say they are tired of voting for someone who only knows them when elections are near. The people of Central Basseterre are saying that they are tired of the deceptive and empty promises. And some say that they did not even get promises because for the past five years they have not even seen their representative. And the people of Central Basseterre are saying they intend to correct the mistake that they made five years ago. Yes, one single mother said to me “I voted for Marcella last election, but this year, I think it is time to correct that mistake”. She repeated “…it is time to correct the mistake”. After listening to their stories they have asked me to tell you that they will vote for the person who has their best interest at heart and who has the best program of development and hope to move Central Basseterre forward. They say that they want all politicians who are running as candidates to represent them, to debate one another so that they the constituents can better learn about our plans and programs for Central Basseterre. With that in mind, I hereby formally challenge you, Marcella Liburd, to a public debate on Monday 9th February, 2015, at 5:00pm, in the heart of the constituency, right there on the corner of Fiennes Avenue and Central Street. All arrangements will be made and you shall not have to worry about any responsibilities. All the constituents will be given the opportunity to hear our plans and decide for themselves which candidate best deserves their vote on Election Day. I will be there waiting Marcella, at 5:00pm-6:00pm on Monday 9th February, 2015 at the corner of Fiennes Avenue and Central Street. If you truly believe in serving the people of Central Basseterre, I expect you to show up for this appointment and let us debate the issues. I repeat-Let us debate the issues and let the people decide for themselves whom they want to represent them. If you fail to show, then you would only prove to the voters in Central, that once again you have abandoned them. Unfortunately, after looking for you for the past two weeks and can’t find you, I am now forced to leave a copy of this letter on the door of your constituency office on Central Street, so that one of your workers may have it in their possession, first thing Monday morning, to pass it on to you. I am now placing it on the outside door for you Marcella, so ask your campaign staff for it because I know you won’t be here. I have been looking for you for the past two weeks and cannot find you. But I will continue looking ALL over this country to find you. I will look in the west, I will look in the east, and I will look for you in the north and south. But there is no need to look for you in Central Basseterre, because you are NEVER there. But I promise you I will do everything to ensure that you get this message and this invitation to debate me, in the interest of the people. So I call on ALL constituents and all the media, when you see Marcella, tell her “REMEMBER you have a debate with Jonel on Monday 9th February”. With every good wish my dear friend and colleague in the law, do not worry. When the people elect me over you, I will represent you well, because I believe in People Caring for People, and I believe that all the constituents of Central Basseterre will have hope with Jonel, because Better Days are Coming! Sincerely Jonel Powell Deputy Leader of PAM and Candidate for Central Basseterre And a Member of TEAM UNITY

We played our part too yesterday for National Service Day, taking warm meals for some of our senior citizens in Central Basseterre. The smiles are always worth it.

It was great walking through the townhouses at Lockhart Street and Boone Ave this week with the team. Great feedback. We will be back very shortly with the NHC to address those leaks! 10 years of neglect ends now!

It was amazing to meet with the young people on Sunday and have frank and open discussion on what they want and expect. We need to stop lecturing them and start listening to them.

The work has already begun in what will be almost $500,000.00 of renovations and upgrades in the first phase alone. Look out for NHC with further details. #wegotthis #centralonlock

Congratulations to our very own Kim Collins on being elected to the IAAF Commissionn. You have represented us well as an athlete and I know that you will represent your fellow athletes just as well. You continue to be a shining example of what young people from a small twin island nation can achieve. Thank you!

Let's walk and talk!

It was refreshing to see a smile on the face of Javier "Bentos" Gaiton when visiting with him in hospital on the weekend. In the wake of his most traumatic leg break on Friday night his upbeat spirit and positivity was truly inspiring.

After a weekend marred by violence and the tragedy resulting in the loss of Sean “Spajal” Smith and Dennis “Bun Up” Liburd to whose families i offer sincere condolences, it is good to be reminded that their are still young, positive thinking m...en in our society like Bentos.

I hope that Bentos can been seen as an inspiration to the rest of our community to stay strong in the face of adversity. I know for a fact that he is an inspiration to his club, our club, the Garden Hotspurs and that they have even more fire in them as they enter the SKNFA finals this weekend and win that long awaited, well deserved Cup.

Stay strong on the road to recovery Bentos and save your strength to lift that Cup.
