Police on Wednesday identified the man found dead in a St. John recreational park as Jahil Ward, age 32; the same man found guilty in a high-profile killing in 2007 of Jamie Cockayne from PA.
Police say Ward was found Tuesday night slumped in the front seat of a car. As of Wednesday, when he was identified, no suspects had been found and a murder investigation had begun, police spokesman Toby Derima said.
According to V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Toby Derima, at approximately 9:10 p.m., the 911 Emergency Call Center received a report of a gunshot victim at the Pine Peace Basketball Court. He said the victim succumbed to the gunshot-related injuries.
It was not clear what led to the shooting, or how the incident occurred; Mr. Derima said more information would be forthcoming.
The male victim's identity was being withheld pending next of kin notification.
...This incident is presently under investigation by the Criminal Investigation Bureau, Mr. Derima said.
The V.I.P.D. is asking anyone with information about the shooting to contact Crime Stoppers USVI with an anonymous tip here.
