“I like bars just after they open for the evening. When the air inside is still cool and clean and everything is shiny and the barkeep is giving himself that last look in the mirror to see if his tie straight and his hair is smooth. I like the neat bottles on the bar back and the lovely shining glasses and the anticipation. I like to watch the man mix the first one of the evening and put it down on a crisp mat and put the little folded napkin beside it. I like to taste it slowly. The first quiet drink of the evening in a quiet bar—that's wonderful.

Lovely and friendly place with great service and good wine. Perfetto! Ham, olives, appetizers and some wine are exclusive imports from south Italy. Worth visiting, worth revisiting, worth staying for ...a long day. See More

Great place in that it's not to far away or in a weird location. Besides this more than half the time I get to pet the neighborhood kitty cats on the walk to or from this cozy bar. Kewl people, chill ...vibes, warm alcohol buzz and more often than not some delightful cuddle kitty action, what more could you want. :) See More

I really liked Barlova and its atmosphere when I first visited a few days ago. Today I went in with the flowers, Barlova to be the first place to visit on my return to Tartu. There were three people... at the bar, and one of them was very insistent that they were "really, really, REALLY" closed. I left the flowers on the table and walked out. Good thing that the next door they had other options. Good bye, Barlova. See More

I recall Barlova as a night filled with great people, cozy atmosphere, dancing and warm summer rain - this place really is filled with love! Keep the awesomness going.

The most inviting bar/caffé in town or probably in the country! Great mash-up of both Italian and Estonian hospitality. Great coffee and great beer selection too!

Cool staff. Nice atmosphere. Nice small bar a bit outside of the city center which makes it special I think. Perfect for enjoying time with friends.

Funny staff, good wine and caffe sospeso! Also the location is perfect - Karlova, a district of Tartu with wooden houses, out of the city center but not too far. Worth to visit anyway!

It's always a good sign when a bar keeps its coffee machine clean and orderly. Genuinely friendly staff and great chocolate cake also go a long way.

Every time I go there I have such a great experience. Yesterday we got free drinks. That was a nice gesture. Best bar in Tartu. Thank you! :)

Barlova 2!!
Ismo Haavisto Barlovas

These are undoubtedly the most special thoughts and words someone has ever dedicated to the bar. We are all grateful to you, Craig, and all waiting for your next visit!

Craig Nash is with Simone Cassano and 2 others.

While in Estonia for my fourth trip recently, I discovered an amazing place with some incredible people. Estonian World (an English language site devoted to all things Estonian) published an article I wrote about Barlova. It would be amazing if you would read, like and share. —

Simone Cassano, an Italian from the Puglia region, opened a bar in the Karlova area of Tartu, the second-biggest town in Estonia, where Estonians stop “being Estonians” – they actually talk!

Alar Tuul (s 1982) on Eesti noorte autorite seas üks äratuntavama ja eripärasema käekirjaga kunstnikke. Tuule Karel Appel'it või Jean-Michel Basquiat'i meenutavad automatistlikult naiivsed pildipinnad on aastate jooksul liikunud üksikutelt detailidelt üha suuremate üldistusteni.

Antti's music created a very special atmosphere in the bar - besides the beautiful memory that everyone who attended to the concert will keep in their minds, we also have a little soundtrack from that night, as part of the concert was recorded. Thank you once again, Antti, also for your beautiful words about our bar.

"The evening gig was part of Tartu Bluusikuu festival. I arranged to meet Andres at the Barlova. When I got there, the bar was already half full and while I set ...up the gear even more people showed up.

The Barlova is just the kind of place that I like to play. A unique interior and a great staff. The formula is that if the owner likes the place, the staff likes the place then the customers can like the place too. If you play in a place that has one of these “likes” missing, there’s nothing you can do about it. But if the foundation is solid and the owner, the staff and the customers are all happy, then you can bring performers in to the mix. These places are more rare than you would think. I’ve set out to find these little diamonds among the general rubble, and luckily now I can add another X to my treasure map. Sadly many of them aren’t in the business anymore, but if new ones keep showing up, we might have a chance. Keep up the great work in Tartu and hope to see you again soon!

I played two sets, got to see old and new friends and had a chance to hang out with the lovely Roots family & art collective.

It really was a unique night."
