As Black History Month draws to a close, I want to recognize a remarkable constituent who left her own mark on history. On February 25, 2018, Beaver County lost one of its treasured, Maria Delitha “Dee” Green. In 1955 Dee made history as the first African-American registered nurse in Beaver County, working at Providence Hospital in Beaver Falls and eventually becoming head nurse.
After the hospital’s closure, Dee continued her 36 year-long nursing career at the Beaver County... Medical Center until her retirement in 1990. Dee faced many obstacles as an African-American nurse in the 1950's such as the reality of segregated dormitory housing. However she did not let those barriers discourage her, believing people would accept her for who she was.
She was a blessing to those who came in contact with her and remained a caregiver until her health declined at the end of 2017. We are grateful for Dee’s decades of exemplary service and for the outstanding model she was. May God grant her eternal rest, and may her family be consoled with many blessed memories.
I agree with President Trump's decision to withdraw from the deeply flawed "Iran Nuclear Deal."
I have said it from the beginning that this Obama-era deal poses a direct threat to the United States, Israel, and our allies. The Iranian regime is still the world’s leading state sponsor of terrorism. They export and smuggle weapons to clients in Syria, Iraq, Lebanon, and Yemen where horrific conflict still rages.
The President’s announcement today offers America a path forward to renegotiate a transparent agreement that actually holds this dangerous regime accountable. It is critical that we prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons or missiles capable of delivering them. We must also stop them from spreading terror, crime, and corruption worldwide.
