Hello neighbors, here's the latest: The Kensington Dog Run is about to enter the procurement stage of the project. Now that NYC Parks has reviewed and approved the K9Grass material to be used in the dog run, the next stop is for the project to go out to bid. Afterwards, the contractor will have about a year to construct the dog run. We are currently estimating the project to be completed some time next year and we will keep you updated along the way. As always, thanks for your support!
Hello, neighbors! Many of you have been asking on the status of the dog run, so we wanted to fill you in on where the project currently stands.
The final Public Design Commission package, which includes the final construction documents, are being submitted by the Prospect Park Alliance. The project will then enter the hands of the Parks Department for review, after which it goes out to bid for a contractor. That part of the process will take about a year to complete and wi...ll be followed by ground breaking in 2018.
We thank you all for your ongoing support and patience as the project proceeds. We promise it will be worth the wait for you and your pups!
In the meantime, we look forward to seeing you at FIDO - Fellowship in the Interest of Dogs and their Owners Coffee Barks and other dog events around Brooklyn. Just look for our banner and come say hi!
Thank you Bklyner!!
We are extremely excited to share these renderings of the future Kensington Dog Run! The Landscape Architecture and Design team at the Prospect Park Alliance has done a beautiful job bringing our vision to life. The new design will be presented at upcoming Community Board meetings (dates and locations TBA). Though the design is not 100% set in stone, it is certainly a thrill to see how things have progressed from an idea among neighbors to where we stand today. More work ahead and you can count on the Kensington Dog Run Association to keep you in the loop about the status of the project as we move along. As always, thank you for your ongoing support!
We'd like to thank you all for your continued support and patience! You can rest assured that we are making significant progress with the dog run.
The Prospect Park Alliance architecture team has been hard at work, creating a beautiful design for the dog run which we will be sharing in the coming weeks.
The Kensington Dog Run Association remains hard at work to keep the community informed about the status of the dog run throughout the project timeline. Stay tuned for more updates and announcements to come.
Be careful out there, folks! Keep your pups away from the lake for the time being.
Dog Beach is being renovated! The pavement will be replaced by stone slabs sourced from upstate New York, the chain link fencing will be replaced with mesh and ...cable, and invasive aquatic plants will be removed and replaced with native plants. FIDO - Fellowship in the Interest of Dogs and their Owners will be hosting a special mini-Coffee Bark event this Sunday, June 26 at the Peninsula in Prospect Park from 7-9am. There will be a Memorial Bench dedication and a celebration of the new fishing line depositories along the lake. Please come join in the festivities!
With much excitement, we are happy to share the news that the Kensington Dog Run will be fully-funded this year!
The project was made possible with allocated funds via Participatory Budgeting from Council Member Mathieu Eugene of District 40 and via Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams’ capital allocations. The balance of the funds needed will be covered by Council Member Brad Lander of District 39.
Once the City budget passes at the end of June, the Prospect Park Alliance ...and the Parks Department will work together to develop a design for the new dog run. They’ll then put out a call for bids from contractors, select a contractor, and sign an agreement. Once the contractor is on board, construction can begin!
Thanks to everyone who voted for the dog run in Participatory Budgeting this year and to all of the residents for their ongoing support. This is a huge victory for the neighborhood!
