The Kenya Film Classification Board has today held discussions with the Global Peace Foundation , paving the way to the establishment of a model of collaboration between the two organizations geared towards promoting values in education.

The Global Peace Foundation is an international agency that identifies universally-recognized principles and shared values as essential to building social cohesion within nations and the global community.

In the proposed partnership, KFC...B and GPF will work closely to ensure more emphasis on values in education, particularly among impressionable children and youth.

Speaking when he met GPF representatives at KFCB's headquarters in Nairobi,KFCB Chief Executive Officer Mr. Ezekiel Mutua said the two organisations will set about exploring areas of cooperation and partnership, adding that the partnership will be timely as it comes at a time the country's education system is undergoing reform.

Identifying film as a powerful tool of transmitting values, Mr. Mutua said KFCB will be delighted to work with GPF through a structured way designed to imbibe moral values and integrity in young people in the course of their education.

'Moral breakdown threatens global global peace, to which the Global Peace Foundation is working. Film can become a catalyst of breakdown of values. The Government has a duty to protect this eventuality. That is why we believe in regulation, not to stifle access to information, but to safeguard the national moral fabric,' he said.

On his part, Global Peace Foundation International Vice President(Education Division) Mr. Tony Devine said GPF was looking forward to working with KFCB, saying by working together would enable the two organisations to achieve more.

Already, the two organisations have identified some of the areas of partnership. This will include using film for narrative change by dissemination positive messages, and creating avenues of encouraging positive use of technology. Global Peace Foundation Kenya

Besides, the industry has the potential of creating effective platforms from which to tell the Kenyan story to the world through film.

In executing our regulatory functions, KFCB will continue working closely with all industry stakeholders to establish consensus on the best way forward in the interest of the industry.
