Machete attack- Dangerous and aggressive owner... Do not go here!
Tuesday April 3, 2018
...
After reading the positive reviews my partner and I did the cooking class today. Long story short, the chef and owner Soklim ended up threatening us with a machete (causing cuts on my hand and arm) and hitting my chest with the blade. This was in response to us paying him the $30 bill with a $20 bill which had a small corner tear (which we didn't even notice)! He got furious after we iniststed that the bill would be fine- threatening to keep our motorcycle as ransom. He then got his assistant to guard our bike and ran to his shed and grabbed a full sized machete which he then used as a weapon to hit me with. Luckily I had a different $20 bill which I could give him. My partner was incredibly upset and we had to flag down another motorcycle. He was abosolutely out of control and unstable. Stay away and go to one of the many other cooking classes offered nearby where the staff will not assault and threaten you. We were very lucky- and the situation could have been much worse. We have both travelled extensively and have never felt so unsafe. We proceeded to file a police report but felt it was important to share this with other travellers immediately.

best masaman curry ever in a beautiful countryside setting!
Soklim and family are awesome hosts and served up some of the freshest, made from scratch food ever. Wish I'd had the appetite to stay all day!

The best food we had in Cambodia. It was 100% % worth of money and time. We spend there whole day cooking, talking and tasting, and afer all we went to see the pepper plantation, another interesting p...lace to see. Thank you! See More

The best food I had in Cambodia. Everything tasted so fresh and since you can see how they make it (or, indeed, make it yourself) you understand why, even the coconut milk is made in the premises!
Th...e first time we went there, we did the cooking class. It was brilliant and everyone was so helpful and it was a proper hands-on lesson. Two days after that, we went back for more because the food was just so delicious. My absolute favorites: the aubergine stir fry and the Massaman curry. See More

Amazing! I ate here 4 times during my stay in Kampot. Great place to sneak what goes in to Khmer food. I'm definitely going to try some of his recipes. :)
