We’re happy to report that Kitt Plumbing & Heating will be a Carroll Merchants game sponsor this season, and you’re invited to join us on Saturday June 17 for the 7:00 game! And if you’re one of the first 100 grownups through the gate, you will find out what we’re hiding in these boxes which are fresh off the UPS truck! If you’d like FREE tickets to the June 17 game just stop by our office and say the secret phrase: “Hi…um…I was wondering if you still have any tickets available to your Merchants game on June 17?” (We don't have an unlimited supply, so don't dilly-dally, as our mother would say.) Thanks for supporting the Merchants and we hope to see y’all at the game!

Q: How many plumbers does it take to manhandle a 400 lb. cast iron tub to a newly-remodeled basement bathroom?

A: Four. Three to do the work and one to take the picture.

Houston (and the rest of America), we have a problem. And Mike Rowe seems to be the only one of note who realizes it. Luckily he's enlisted the help of This Old House to promote and support his ongoing efforts to bing awareness and solutions to recruiting and encouraging the next generation of skilled tradespeople in our country.

Well more than 21,000 Consumer Reports subscribers have spoken, and the result does not surprise us here at KPH: the most reliable brand of furnace is Ruud. We have been an authorized Ruud installer for more than 30 years, and we can attest that their latest generations of furnaces (and air conditioners!) are the most reliable and well-made that we have seen (and yes, we get the chance to see many other brands of furnaces in our day-to-day service work). And FYI, the installation practices of the furnace installer plays a big part in overall reliability too - and we happen to think we do quite well in that department, too. So, food for thought for when it's time to replace your home's HVAC system!

Friends, the day we have long been dreading has arrived... The major 3rd Street storm sewer project is now right outside our office front door. This is a huge disruption to traffic on our block and frankly a big PITA to our daily operations. So we'd like to recommend that anyone planning on coming by our office for any reason SERIOUSLY reconsider that idea; it's extremely congested here and just not easy to get in and out. It's not that we wouldn't love to see you, we swear! It would just really better for everyone if we keep the car traffic to a minimum during this ordeal. Thanks for your help and understanding! Please tell your friends!

You know all of those "wipes" products at the store that say "flushable" on the box? Well they're not, and you should not. This is what they look like while they linger in your sewer line without breaking down...after they've clogged your sewer and caused your basement to be flooded with sewage. (Shown here with some tree roots adding insult to injury.) REPEAT AFTER US: I will not flush any kind of wipes down the toilet regardless of what it says on the package!

Our favorite smart thermostat has been updated to a 3rd generation, with a larger screen and more software smarts. The good news is, if you already have a Nest, yours will get the same new smarts in an upcoming software update. We still have a few of the 2nd generation thermostats on hand which we are selling for $199 (save $50!). If you're interested in a very useful and energy-saving upgrade for your home, let us know...quick, before they're gone!

Meet the Nest Learning Thermostat. The Nest thermostat learns the temps you like, turns itself down when you're away, and has remote control through Wi-Fi.

We love it when the new guy jumps head first into his work.

For those who look to our FB page for breaking local news.... the boil advisory has ended, we can all go back to hydrating as usual. (Also, you should probably look for a more reliable source of breaking local news.)

Advice for Reverse Osmosis system owners during Carroll's boil order...
If you want to be as safe as possible during the boil order, we recommend not using your RO system until the boil order is over. This also means you should turn off your automatic ice maker if your RO system is feeding it. Reverse Osmosis is a highly effective method for thoroughly filtering minerals and dissolved solids from water, but it is not guaranteed to remove all bacteria and pathogens. So if our water were compromised with bacteria, an RO system is not guaranteed to remove it. By not using your RO system, you will prevent the possibly-contaminated city water from getting into it; once the boil order is over, you can go back to using it normally.

It's that time of the year when we put out a plea for your used towels and rags! If you have old hand towels, bath towels, beach towels, bed sheets, curtains, or blankets you no longer need, we will happily take them off of your hands! Think of it as the perfect excuse to upgrade your linen closet! Our business is one of continual mess containment and cleanup, and any old towels, etc. help us A LOT, no matter how ugly they are! Feel free to drop by or contact us and we will come to you to pick them up! Sorry for all the exclamation points! Thank you for your help and support! OK!
