This week we spoke to the owner of Home Restaurant Los Feliz, HOME Restaurant SILVERLAKE, and H Coffee House, Aram Serobian. MOPE: How long have you lived in LA? Aram: In December of 1989, my parents and I made the big decision to move to Los Angeles from Armenia when I was only 16 years old. We were very much inspired by the idea of “The American Dream,” and though it definitely wasn’t always easy, it was the best opportunity to learn how hard work drives success. It didn’t take long before we fell deeply in love with this country. MOPE: What makes Home different? Aram: Offering a refreshing take on California cuisine, where we take classic dishes from breakfast, lunch, and dinner and reinvigorate them with new ideas, Home Restaurant provides comfort that the community can relate to, while also exciting them with something they might not have seen yet. With Los Angeles being such a center for food culture, it is very important to stand out, and we believe we do that with the environment, hospitality, and consistently delicious food we serve on a daily basis. MOPE: How have you been able to connect with the community? Aram: Speaking of that unique quality, I believe the truly special aspect of Home is that it has become just that—a home—for a wide range of patrons in and out of the close-knit community of Los Feliz. Whether it’s the host who has made that first memorable connection with a customer or an ingredient featured in our popular eggs benedict, we seem to have given the community a place they can return to again and again and feel just as at ease and welcome as ever. Coming in on any given weekend, you’ll most likely find many members of our waitstaff in conversation with regulars who come in precisely for the friendly faces and fare they have come to know and love over the years. MOPE: What does the name of the restaurant "Home" mean to you? Aram: The word “home” means everything in my culture, and almost everyone holds that idea and concept close to their hearts. So, I put my own heart and soul into this restaurant and see the customers as guests in my own house. It’s about feeling welcome and comfortable, being able to get away from the often-hectic nature of Los Angeles. If everyone can walk in and feel like they’re part of a family, even for just an hour, then I know it has been a success. MOPE: How have you been connected with the Los Feliz community? Aram: Having been part of the Los Feliz community for 15 years now, I truly believe we have come to rely on each other for strength and success. The people of this neighborhood have directly come to shape how I run the restaurant, what I want to serve on the plate, and how I want to continue to evolve it in the future. And I think they have come to expect that of us. They want us to succeed just as much as we want them to have the best dining experience possible.
