When used properly, social media can be a wonderful tool for sharing content and communicating. But in the past years studies have revealed the negative effect that social media can have on people's mental health, especially teenagers. Some recommend kids should spend less time on social media and more time doing physical or creative activities. But overall, the key is to teach kids how to use social media for more positive, constructive and healthy ways.
In Piplantree, India, planting trees for girls is a beautiful initiative that is not only changing old traditions to save girls lives, but also saving the environment in the region.
These lovely children participate in an experiment that sends a very important message: equal opportunity and rights for girls and boys, women and men is the cause behind International Women's Day. Equality will ensure a better future and more sustainable livelihoods for generations to come. Let's put in practice principles of equality in our every day lives.
This great idea from Playing Out can apply to cities and towns everywhere around the world! Making streets available to promote healthy play time and direct social interaction among kids (and their parents) can bring safety and positive changes to communities.
We met Miguel Angel Insfran, a member of the Recycled Orchestra of Cateura, back in 2016, when our film had its world premier in Paraguay.
Miguel Angel has recently completed with honors his high school education, through a scholarship provided by the Orchestra. His vision disablity was never an impediment for him. Now he is a beneficiary of a full Itaipu scholarship for higher level education and will pursuit a university degree. We are extremely proud of you Miguel Angel!
Every child, anywhere in the world, has the right to enjoy a safe school environment. Governments have the responsibility to do everything possible to guarantee this right is not taken away from children. We are terribly saddened by the incessant school shootings in the US and hope and pray for a substantial policy change.
It feels great to see more entrepreneurs and designers are coming up with innovative business ideas that are ethical, take care of the environment and make honest profits, like Lauren Singer who became know world wide for making her personal waste accumulated in several years fit into just one mason jar. She is now founder of Package Free a store that promotes sustainability and offers products in refillable containers. Check it out!
This great teaching method focuses on five essential lessons that will change a kid's life: gratitude, positive thinking, giving, meditation and confidence. These lessons should be implemented in all schools curriculum around the world! Check out the open source site for happiness lessons here: http://happinesslessons.brightvibes.com/
We love these solar backpacks made from recycled plastic bags by Repurpose Schoolbags. What a great way to help kids from disadvantaged communities and the environment! This is what we call Good Design.
Meet William Wilson Servian Lopez A.K.A. Wiwi, a new luthier of the Recycled Orchestra of Cateura. He is now designing new instruments that are inspired by the acoustic sound of Steiner and Stradivarius instruments. In this video you can appreciate the remarkable work of Wiwi.
Before becoming a luthier for the Orchestra, he used to have a very consuming life routine. He used to sleep only 3 hours a night, worked at the marketplace lifting heavy weights from 1 am until 10 am,... then ran between classes at the conservatory, the Fine Arts Institute and rehearsals with the Recycled Orchestra. In this message Wiwi is thankful to the Orchestra for giving him and opportunity to work as a luthier, the possibility to sleep 8 hours, access to dental care, a scholarship, a home and the opportunity to perform with the Orchestra across the world.
We are so proud of you! Vamos adelante Wiwi!
