Happy New Year and mark down November 6th, 2018 on your calendars to get out and VOTE for SoccerCitySD!!! Let's make history 😀
Looking forward to meeting all of you and talking about the benefits of SoccerCitySD and how it will positively impact SDSU and its students for generations to come. Oh, and free tacos 🌮🌮🌮
First of all, thanks to all of you for your continued support of SoccerCity and sticking by us as we’ve navigated this tricky process. From day 1, our objective has been to be transparent, honest and to take the high road at all times. It certainly hasn’t been easy but most things that are worthwhile in life don’t come easily. Here’s what we’ve been up to and what our next steps are:
*Over the past few months, we have taken some down time to reassess everything and re-ener...
There's a lot of confusion out there so I want to clarify where we are with SoccerCity. City Council voted yesterday against a special election for the Convention Center. While a vote FOR a special election for the Convention Center would have helped us, the vote against it certainly doesn't kill our project. We have our chance to make our voices heard next Monday at the City Council meeting. The council had some understandable reasons for not accepting the Convention Ce...nter request but those reasons do not apply to our project.
So you know, WE WILL NOT STOP FIGHTING FOR YOU. Hundreds of thousands of San Diegans have told us they want SoccerCity and we owe it to all of you to keep representing you, the people. We need everyone to keep inundating their City Council members with emails, calls, tweets, etc. to let them know that we want to be able to vote on this.
We will be back with more updates throughout the week and we can't wait to see you all at the City Council meeting next Monday, June 19th.
A quick update so everyone knows exactly what’s at stake over the next 9 days:
San Diego City Council will make a few decisions over the next two weeks that will dramatically impact this region for generations to come. They have two choices:
1. Put SoccerCity on the ballot for a special election later this year and allow the people of San Diego to vote on this project in a meaningful way. Doing so would give ALL San Diegans the chance to weigh in on their future instead of ...just a select few making the final decision.
2. Decline to put SoccerCity on the ballot for a special election and kill the project.
You may not like this plan and that’s ok. But remember, the people that are opposed to this plan have now had many months to come up with an alternative plan. Guess how many plans they’ve come up with: ZERO. Ask yourself these questions: If this plan is so terrible, why hasn’t anyone come up with a better plan. Wouldn’t it be easy to create a better plan if this was so awful for San Diego? If this project dies, you will see plans that are eerily similar to SoccerCity over the next 5-10 years. Except one thing will be missing; there won’t be an MLS team attached to any of them.
I know this is a long post and I appreciate you taking the time to read it. Just want to be VERY clear on what’s at stake here. If you want to see this move forward, we need you to show up on June 12th and June 19th at City Council to show your support. Also, you can call all of the City Council members over the next couple of days and let them know how you feel. Their numbers are on our SoccerCitySD Facebook page.
The future of San Diego is literally in the hands of a few City Council members and we hope they will have the courage to be the heroes that San Diego has been needing for so long. Let’s make sure they know what’s at stake and that we are counting on them to do the right thing.
Woke up this morning to thousands of messages from all of you wanting to know how you can help push this over the finish line. You guys inspire me greatly and I'm proud to represent you in your desire to bring MLS here and protect your right to vote in a meaningful way. We have a lot of work ahead if we want to allow people the opportunity to vote on SoccerCity. June 19th is our World Cup final and we need EVERYONE at the City Council meeting that day. Additionally, we need everybody to call their City Council member every day, all day, to let them know that their right to vote is being taken away from them. We can't do this without you guys...it's going to take a total team effort. I'm prepared to fight til the end and I know you are too. Let's go team!!!!!
