We need Route 53!!!!
Welcoming Spring with a little bit of construction humor. Have you also heard the one about the construction cone being the official state flower? Haha!
But all joking aside... as construction projects start back up, we hope you will remember to slow down and watch for workers. We all want to get home safely at the end of the day. Thank you!
Heads up! This Metra project will impact the Milwaukee North Line in April.

We have seen flooded roadways in Lake County before, and we will likely see them again. During #FloodSafety week, this is a good reminder about the power of water. #TurnAroundDontDrown

GOOD NEWS! Lake County, IL Government has received the 2018 Excellence in Snow and Ice Control Award from the American Public Works Association (APWA). At LCDOT, we take great pride in our snow and ice control operations. We spend so much time planning, preparing, and responding – we live and breathe it all winter long. Today we celebrate! What will we do with our excitement and happiness moving forward? We will reinvest it back into the program and use it as fuel to continue pushing ourselves and working hard. We share this award with our partners at Lake County Stormwater Management Commission and @lLake County Health Department and Community Health Center for the many ways they support this program. During an active snow event, plows push snow off to the side of the road. But did you know we go back for clean-up after the snow stops? In this picture, Kevin is removing snow from a bridge deck. We do this for a few reasons:
• To prevent snow from building up on the sides and going over the top when there is a road underneath.
• To make room for the next snow event.
• To prevent a nighttime refreeze after a daytime thaw.
Ever wonder WHO is up in the plow working through the night to keep you safe? Men and women who take their responsibility very seriously. Men and women who miss time with their families. Men and women who bundle up and get to work even though they know the hours are long and conditions can be challenging. Meet our plow drivers and give a friendly wave when you see them go by!
