During her upbringing in segregation era Alabama, Condoleezza Rice's classmate was killed when her church was bombed by white supremacists. “The crime was calculated to suck the hope out of young lives, bury their aspirations,” she recalls. Rice never lost hope. She’d go on to become the first black woman to serve as the United States' national security adviser and the first black female Secretary of State. #BeyondFirsts #BlackHistoryMonth

For far too long, winter sports was considered a white pastime. Luckily, that didn’t stop Debi Thomas from breaking the ice. The Stanford University-educated figure skater was the first black athlete to win a medal in the Winter Olympic, earning a bronze in 1988. Her legacy has paved the rink for more diversity in winter sports. With 10 black athletes competing, this year’s Winter Olympics in PyeongChang 2018 - 2018 평창 동계올림픽대회 및 동계패럴림픽대회 is the most diverse the world has ever seen. We’ve still got along way to go, but thanks to Debi, we’ve come a little closer showing the world what we can do on the ice. #BeyondFirsts #BlackHistoryMonth

As #NewYorkFashionWeek begins, models of all colors, shapes and sizes will strut down the catwalk. In part, we can thank Tyra Banks for using her place on the runway to open the conversation for more diversity in modeling. While you may recognize the model turned media mogul from her spate of shows like America's Got Talent and America’s Next Top Model she was first known for her career as a covergirl. Tyra was the first black woman to grace the covers of GQ and the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit. She helps shape the self-esteem of the next generation of girls through her foundation TZONE, explaining, “The fire to inspire women and help them to blaze new paths fiercely burns inside of me.” And inspires us, you do! #BeyondFirsts #BlackHistoryMonth #BlackExcellence

A big congrats to Zach Ertz and the Philadelphia Eagles on the Super Bowl championship! Be sure to watch Julie Johnston Ertz take a turn at her big win in the National Women's Soccer League on Lifetime in March!
Did you know that that female artists were responsible for only 1 out of every 5 songs on the Billboard 100 for the past 6 years? Women in music have always had a tough road, but it’s even tougher behind the scenes for female songwriters, producers and execs. That’s why we’re saluting Sylvia Rhone, former President of Universal Motown Records and now running Epic Records, where she’s of the most influential in the game. Among the legendary acts she’s managed: En Vogue, Brandy, and Missy Elliott. Rhone recently joined a group of music execs demanding changes in the Recording Academy / GRAMMYs, which oversees the Grammy’s, which were noticeably, uh, dude-ly this year. But not for much longer! Go get ‘em, Sylvia! #BeyondFirsts #BlackHistoryMonth #TimesUp #BlackExcellence
Ashley Graham modeled alongside her mother in her empowering new Swimsuits For All campaign. Her gorgeous 53-year-old mother is Ashley's role model and inspired her own body positivity by promoting it in her household before it was a movement. She definitely got it from her mama!
On this day in #WomensHistory, Laura Ingalls Wilder was born. She grew up to chronicle her pioneer life in the hit "Little House" series. It has sold close to 60 million copies in 33 language. The children's book inspired the popular TV show, Little House on the Prairie where she was played by Mélissa Gilbert. Wilder’s success as an author was the product of the same grit that allowed her to create a life for herself, and her family, on the harsh American frontier. #shedidthat Laura Ingalls Wilder Historic Home and Museum Little House on the Prarie PrairieFans.com Little House on the Prairie Museum
