Kate Kiernan, Medical Student I thought I would just be hit by a lightning bolt and know what I wanted to do. So many people I talked to about medical school just seemed to know it was the only thing that would make them happy. I went back and forth for about ten months, agonizing over the decision. While I waited for the booming voice, I thought. I thought about pros and cons, about lifestyle and life plans. I thought about happiness and fulfillment. But it turned out, a lot of my hesitation in making this decision was not wanting things to change. I don't know that there is only one thing that will make me happy; but what I do know is I would've regretted not taking this step to find out if this were one. The advice I would give myself is two-fold and seemingly contradictory, but most importantly, is about balance. On one hand, to keep my head above the fray and maintain perspective. Even when I have a rough week and medical school really is as much work as people say -- maintaining perspective both of why I chose to go to school and of my very close and continued connections to my life in Boston will be important. And on the other, to bury my head in the sand and live life with my feet on the ground and in each moment. While it is important to be myself, it’s also important to bury the nerves, bury all the fear, and just jump in -- make it happen.

We are so excited for Amy Larson, founder of www.overseasoned.com, to teach us how to make pasta from scratch this Sunday! #linxxladies

More about Amy: I've always loved food. Sure, most people love food but I love it on a level of dedicating my college essay to how important food is to me. I owe this fascination entirely to my mom, a self taught cook who cooked and baked gourmet meals for our family growing up. She's the kind of person who'd do amazing on Chopped, continuo...usly producing delicious and creative meals on a whim. Learning about food from her inspired me to start my monthly mini cookbook series Overseasoned. I handwrite each recipe because I love the way that my mom and her sisters always shared recipes on physical recipe cards. And I focus each month on ingredients that are ripe at the time. Creating seasonal food is fun for me because it helps me stay present and enjoy the best of each season. In June I'm celebrating strawberries and in November I'm partying with all the squash. I'm grateful to have access to fresh, local food and I want to use my enthusiasm to inspire others to cook for themselves in a fun and seasonal way. #womeninspirewomen #foodie #bostonfoodie #localchef #getitgirl #wcw
