Friends of Matcha, Gyokuro and Sencha will be relieved to hear, that close by Hermannplatz the teahouse Macha Macha offers more than 17 sorts of tea. For my travel guide BertaBerlin I did discover thi...s little, hidden gem. Here you can escape the everyday life of Berlin. And if you can't get enough of Japanese culture, you can have a fine dinner at Tabibito afterwards. See More

Zen Practice - Buddha's Birthday Special
with a Japanese Zen Monk

On April 8th Buddha's birthday is celebrated in Japan. We have a Special Session to celebrate his birthday in Berlin, too.

...

At Buddhism Temples in Japan Buddha statues are decorated with flowers and Amacha (sweet tea) is offerd on that day, because it is believed that sweet rain fell when he was born.

This time we have a longer session including Eating Zazen (traditional Zen temple breakfast ceremony) . After Zazen we offer Amacha to Buddha and share our experiences over a cup of tea.

We learn traditional Zazen which has been practiced in Eiheiji Temple for centuries. Eiheiji (永平寺) is one of two main temples of the Soto school of Zen Buddhism in Japan. The instructor is a Japanese Zen Monk who was trained there.

Nice visit to a famous tea room in Okinawa today. We got branches and leaves of Karagi (Okinawa cinnamon) from Michiyo Uehara the owner of the shop. Very tasty to blend with black tea. Good pure, too. Michiyo knows a lot about teas and people from many countries visit this tea room. We bring this Karagi back to Berlin.
