*** 24-hour Bridge Marathon for Charity ***
As most of you will know, 12 of our members took part in a 24-hour straight marathon of Bridge a few weekends ago to raise money for a cause close to our hearts, the Motor Neurone Disease Association (MNDA). It is with great pride that we can announce that our total amount raised is a staggering £893.48. We would like to thank everyone who sponsored us and especially those who came down to join us for parts of the session to play with us and cheer us on. Moreover, I would like to personally thank all the members who came and played the 24 hours. To ask a student to take a weekend off to play a card game for 24 hours in the name of charity is wishful, but these members jumped at the opportunity, and without them this would all not be possible.
We will stop collecting donations and the JustGiving page will be taken down in the next few days, but if you haven't had the chance to donate and would like to help us raise even more, feel free to bring it to any member of the committee during our usual sessions, or visit our JustGiving page.
Thanks to everyone for making this such a successful event.

***24-Hour Bridge Marathon Final Update***
This is our final update covering the bridge marathon that took place 2 months ago. We can now confirm that all donations have been received by the Motor Neurone Disease Association(MNDA) and our final total is £956.25! Once again, a huge thanks to all who donated and supported us, every penny counts and I am sure our total of almost one-thousand pounds will go a long way in helping to battle this horrible disease.
Many thanks for yo...ur generosity,
The University of Manchester Bridge Society.

*** Portland Bowl ***
A huge well done to our A team of Kelvin Lau, Kirsty Fuller, Alex Combe and Mitchell Dytham who have progressed to the finals of the Portland Bowl with a comfortable win over Durham A. The Portland Bowl is the inter-university annual bridge competition and the A team will in all likelihood face Oxford A in the semi final in 4 weeks' time. Wish them luck and well done! Here's a photo of them enjoying a post-victory Chinese, compliments of Kelvin's parents!
*** 24 Hour Bridge ***
Hi guys, just wanted to remind everyone how proud we are about the completion of 24 hour Bridge! We're still collecting donations towards the studies devoted to Motor Neurone Disease. Any donations are appreciated and can be done online via https://www.justgiving.com/Alex-Combe1/ or in cash/cheques to any members of the committee.
Once again, I give thanks to everyone who participated or have donated or play Bridge or anyone who has been influenced by t...his event.
Also, further mentions to those I missed out last time: To CC who came and supported us for an hour at midnight and to Simon who not only played a proportion of the 24 hours with us, he also gave us bagels for breakfast which we ate with delight!
*** Cantor Cup ***
A few weeks ago we posted about an upcoming beginner competition being hosted in Manchester and I am pleased to announce that our student pair of Corin Hoad and Henry Bissell secured 4th place and some delicious prizes. We had several pairs playing and great bridge was played throughout the day by all. If you're interested in playing in any tournaments or bridge workshops, don't hesitate to contact a member of our committee or ask us at our usual sessions about what's on.
*** Wednesday Bridge and 24-hour Marathon ***
Hello all,
Just to remind you all, we will be having our usual session at the Oxford Pub tomorrow. There will be teaching for those new to the game so if you've been down a couple of times before, or you haven't joined us for a session yet, and would like a little more teaching of the basics, tomorrow is the perfect opportunity to do just that.
Also, some of our members are doing a 24-hour bridge marathon this weekend to raise money for MNDA. Altogether we've currently raised about £250, but it would be great to beat our £600 total of 2 years ago. You're all welcome to come and join in, watch us play or just make a donation. Any amount is greatly appreciated and will help to fight this horrible disease.
Looking forward to seeing you tomorrow,
The UoM Bridge team
Bridge today! 2-5pm Oxford pub. New or experienced, we cater for all. See you later
:)
*** Weekly Bridge ***
Bridge returns! We hope all your exams went well, and you haven't forgotten all your bridge! We'll be meeting, as usual, at the Oxford Pub at 2pm. All abilities are welcome and teaching is provided. This session will be a casual one, hopefully to jog your memories of past sessions! If you haven't played with us before, have no fear! We can teach from complete beginner to seasoned veteran.
Looking forward to seeing you there,...
The UoM Bridge team.
***Cantor Cup***
Hello everyone. Just a quick message about an upcoming bridge competition for novice and inexperienced bridge players on Sunday 22nd February at 2pm. The Cantor Cup entry fee is £7 and will last about 4 hours, with VERY generous prizes on offer. Last year a pair from the society, Kelvin Lau and Mitchell Dytham, took first place and a cool £100 top prize! The competition is being held at the Manchester Bridge Club and more information can be found at www.manchesterbridge.org.uk. Otherwise, feel free to ask on here if you have any more questions or would like us to enter you!
Thanks.
***Exam Period***
Hello everyone. We hope you all had a fantastic (and productive!) Christmas Holidays. Just a reminder that our usual sessions will be starting up again on the first Wednesday after the end of exams; 28th January. This will be a casual session, and a gentle reminder of the basics for anyone who hasn't played bridge over the holidays! There will be from us nearer the time.
For all of you taking exams, we wish you the best of luck! And remember, bridge is a great way to procrastinate!
University of Manchester Bridge Society added 3 new photos — with Emma Victoria Page and 12 others.
***Bowling Social and Semester End***
Thanks to everyone who came yesterday, I think it would be fair to say the whole evening was a great success. This marks the end of our formal meetings for this semester, but I'm sure some bridge will be going on here and there over Christmas, we'll keep you updated!
Thanks especially to Emma for organising the events last night, and the whole of the committee for their loyal work throughout the semester.
...We hope you all have a great Holiday and good luck in all your exams in January. Bridge will return just after the end of the exam period. But remember, the best way to procrastinate is with bridge!
*** Saturday Bridge ***
