Back on the podium at #imboulder While I'm still not 100% sure what's causing my debilitating leg spasm issues, I do know as long I don't take a day off from running and get a chiropractic adjustment before the race I seem to be ok. My DNF at #IMBrail was two weeks ago and it isn't easy to race an @ironmantri when you essentially taper for 4 weeks because fitness eventually deteriorates. I sure as hell felt it the back half of yesterday's #marathon. Thanks to my sponsors for sticking with me and believing in me and especially my wife @jfinn004. @tyrsport @rudyprojectna @edcousa @nyactri @castellitriathlon @ventumracing @compressportus @rideshimano #videooftheday #champagne

What hard day of racing at @ironmantri 70.3 World Champs in Chattanooga, TN

I came out of the water in a decent position, in the main chase pack. The opening miles of the bike was quite bumpy and my nutrition bottle popped out. Even though it's never happened before, I'll rubber band it in from now on.

I managed to pick up some shot blocks at the first aide station, but immediately dropped it as I ran over a loose water bottle and nearly crashed. My reaction skills were quic...k enough to unclip my foot and save it at the last second. I wasn't able to get a clean gel hand off until the aide station at Mile 30.

Since I was afraid of bonking, I backed off the pace and rode easier the remaining few miles of the bike.

Out on the run, I quickly tried to regained my composure, taking advantage of nutrition on the course and my own personal run gel, but slipped from 10th to 11th in the end.

Regardless, I'm very pleased to hang on to 11th place.

Thanks to @tyrsport @ventumracing @compressportus @jfinn004 @rudyprojectna @nyactri @edcousa For the support and @rscottski (Ryan Scott) the photos.

Pre race swim all done. Water is warm, but the air is quite chilly, even 2 hours after the swim start time. Less than 48h to the race. #ironman #im703wc #chattanooga TYR Sport

What a day at the Racine 70.3! 7th place.

Due to water temperatures below the safe zone, the swim in Lake Michigan was cancelled. I think they said it was 51F at 6am. If it was between 52-57 the swim is shortened to 750m. Yesterday was 57.4. I can't believe this lake change conditions so quickly.

We started the race in a time trial format, spaced 30 seconds apart. We went off in order of our start numbers. This meant I was first, with a big target on my back! I was eventual...ly caught by World Champion, Tim Reed, and unfortunately got a "blocking" penalty when Andrew Starykowicz was trying to pass on a windy, rough road section. I was in the wrong, but who wants to ride in the shoulder full of debris and risk a flat?

The penalty was 60 seconds. It's much better than a 5 minute drafting penalty (death sentence). If you include stoppage and start times, it could be as much as an additional :45 second loss.

A few more guys caught me after the penalty was served at mile 30 (Joe Gambles, Matt Hansen, Jake Montgomery, TJ Tollakson).

Off the bike I managed to find my running legs after a few miles and held it together for a 1:14:55 run split. This was essentially my first long tempo run in 10 months. I'm looking forward to switching gears into 70.3 mode with more speed work and intensity.

The best part is that my leg spasms are beginning to be a thing of the past. Running everyday has been the only plausible way to prevent them from creeping back.

Ironman 70.3 World Championships are in Chattanooga, TN in 8 weeks.

Here we go!

Matt Chrabot is feeling pained in Tempe, Arizona.

After an excellent swim at #IMAZ , my left Piriformis spasmed a minute into the bike. There was no way I could ride seated in the aerobars and hold IM wattage therefore my chances of a successful race quickly dwindled to zero.

Instead of turning back right away, I just rode painfully standing up the first 37.3 miles of the 3 loop bike.

I was taken back at how many of my fellow competitors looked over and asked me if I was OK or needed anything as they cruised by. At least h...alf, maybe more. Thanks for checking guys (and a few girls)!

I can't quite figure out this issue. It's the 3rd DNF this year related to muscle spasms either in my adductors, quads, glutes, or piriformis. The major problem is that I can't seem to recreate it in training situations.

I've used #HotShot this weekend as well as the 70.3 down in Los Cabos 3 weeks ago. I've ruled out the issue being related to electrolytes and traditional cramps all endurance athletes get in long hard races.

I'll eventually get to the bottom of it and bounce back to top form.

Best of luck to all the racers out there.
Conditions so far today are perfect. Cloudy, very little wind, and mild temperatures
