"Remember, the conversation between you and your horse must never be dull or inert. It should be, "Ask, receive, give. Ask, receive, give." Ask with your body a...nd legs; receive through your body into your hands; give primarily with the hands, but also with your body and legs, so that you can ask all over again, receive again and give again. The give is your thanks. If you don't give, you must ask harder the next time, and even harder after that, until you end up with a dead or resistant horse." - Sally Swift
Ever wonder - “What’s on a horse trainers mind”?
(and I think I speak for most )
A horse trainer wakes up in the morning with your horse on our mind, we go to b...ed with your horse on our mind.
We sort out our own life struggles, our own disappointments, goals, dreams, journeys, bills , rent to pay , making sure our trucks run well, our trailers are safe, whats the next show , with your horse on our mind .
We help sort out your struggles, goals and dreams even if it’s just a shoulder to lean on or an ear to listen ,with still, your horse on our mind.
We have the drive the passion and the will to fulfill your dreams while at the same time fulfilling ours.
We try to please, sometimes we fail, and we still get through the day with your horse on our mind.
As the hands of time continue people and horses come and go with the wind of change, us horse trainers continue to wake up early, put in long days , sweat, eat dirt, worry, blanket, feed, groom, buy the best tack, return calls, text, schedule lessons, farrier, vet, trying to give our all, with your horse on our mind.
I can speak for myself, I’ve achieved many goals, with many great people and horses on my journey. And it’s been a long long journey. A lifetime journey I wouldn’t have changed.
I have been blessed to have “Your Horse on my Mind.”
The journey continues. Author June Tabor

Matthew Roy Stables would like to thank all of those who made Christmas at the farm possible. We would like to thank all who attended the event on a balmy winter day. Also a big thank you to Margaret Cowie, for all the photos, support, and beautiful write ups you have done.
I was invited to Christmas at the Farm today...riding demonstrations, hot cocoa and hot cider, and cookies and decorations galore!
With temps hovering around 11°F, but with sunshine and no sign of wind, ...I wandered into the new barn and indoor arena of Matthew Roy Stables in Whitefield, NH and met a dozen or more horses. I'm not an equestrian, but I was quite intrigued by the personalities and behaviors of the magnificent animals...they were attentive, curious about the social activity happening around the barn, beautiful, and much like a sled dog…enjoy working in the ring. There were boarders, youngsters, rescues, and there was one two-time champion among them—a gorgeous black Friesian…imported from Holland to the US at age two…and acquired by Mr. Matthew Roy at age 8…and then led to world champion titles.
Matthew held demonstrations in the indoor arena decorated for the Christmas Season, and I marveled at his abilities and how the prized horse, at age 18, is still quite remarkable. I even witnessed his grandmother getting on that champion…one thing she said she’d eventually do, before she died. She did it!
As a widow, with my idea of life ripped right from under my feet, I have learned to "dare" myself to do many things...on my own. I've gone to gala events, taken trips half way around the world, took the troops on road trips around the Northeast, managed the many "manly" chores here at the homestead, and now, I have to say...horse lessons are in my future. I have a bit of a fear of the animals. However, when we face our fears…we conquer them.
When you feel like you're life is missing something...it is. Now, it's your time to make life what you want it to be. We can’t always afford the “champagne” lifestyle. However, never having a wallet to match my taste, I find ways to save or alter my goal a bit so it is more in reach.
Remember, it’s one thing to wish and dream…it’s quite another to take action and LIVE those wishes and dreams.
Blessings! ~Margaret Cowie
