I'm sure you are a wonderful bunch of individuals who do great quality work, but your decision to participate in construction of the Mexican border wall is shameful. It will cause great harm to the Ri...o Grande Valley's economy, and environment, and have little impact on illegal immigration (more immigrants arrive legally and then become illegal by staying past their visa expiration dates, than arrive illegally to start with). Today we've even received word of surveyors invading private property (the National Butterfly Center near Mission, TX) to clear plants from the landscape and place survey stakes without even giving the landowners advance notice, much less asking permission. This sort of work is reprehensible, it is beneath you, and you should inform the government that you are declining the job because you would rather do something *good* for the country. See More

Michael Baker International is under contract to aid in development of the Trump Administration Border Wall. They are on the ground right now surveying public land in a wildlife refuge. They support t...he destruction of endangered wildlife. They support legal loopholes that will allow construction in the wildlife refuge without an environmental review. Do not work for this company. On the Job: Crews set precast concrete box beams on the SR1026-CAS College Avenue Bridge project during a weekend outage in December on the SEPTA - iseptaphilly.com Norristown High Speed Line. Michael Baker, working for Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) District 6 under a construction management open end agreement, identified an alternative construction sequence for the project using a Linear Schedule analysis that recovered 10 weeks of a significant schedule delay by setting beams earlier than originally planned.

Michael Baker recently was awarded a $4 million contract by the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) to provide safer roadways and bridges along the southern gateway corridor for commuting into downtown Dallas.

What a milestone! Michael Baker colleagues and friends recently celebrated the retirement of James B. (JB) Williams, P.E. Nearly 30 years ago, JB brought his expertise as a bridge engineer to Michael Baker, serving first as Officer Manager in the Harrisburg, Pa., office and ultimately as Vice President and Office Executive in Louisville, Ky. He contributed to growing our Harrisburg office, building our Philadelphia presence, establishing our firm in Kentucky and contributing to our bridge practice.

At a surprise retirement luncheon, several colleagues spoke about JB's impact on them and the Company, including CEO Brian Lutes, COO Dale Spaulding and Great Lakes Regional Director, Kent Zinn. Congratulations to JB on a well-deserved retirement and thank you for your years of service.

"How do loads impact the physical plant? The deck, beams, joints, pavement are stressed by heavy vehicles moving closer and closer together," said Richard Dunne (Technical Manager, Structural Engineering at Michael Baker).

WASHINGTON — While truck-to-truck communication, driver training and safety have advanced the effort to hasten platooning to market, another critical aspect is looming and just may cause momentum to pull back some: the impact on infrastructure.

Ever wonder what it’s like to be a civil engineer?

“A typical day for me varies considerably, splitting my time between on-site and in the office. This past week I was inspecting project work, developing a Life Cycle Assessment Analysis, reviewing items with the contractor, overseeing tests with the client, and creating plans. It’s a great career, but the most rewarding part is seeing the final product. Engineers often design one project, and move on to the next, but I have had the opportunity to be out in the field during construction and at project completion. If you’re looking to pursue a career in engineering, my advice is to never lose the desire to learn.” -Adam Walkowiak, Civil Engineer - Construction, Pittsburgh, Pa.

The article discusses the project elements and Michael Baker's involvement, including the additional environmental mitigation aspects such as a seagrass island and saltwater marsh restoration.

In the course of meeting FAA design standards for runway safety areas, Merritt Island Airport (COI) upgraded its previous grass safety zone and completed four associated environmental mitigation projects in 2016. Apparently, management’s above-and-beyond philosophy also extends to construction adm...
