Friday 2/23-25: Hiking adventure plan was to do 30 miles from Unicoi Gap to GA/NC line. Reality we did 20 miles in 2 days. We had to cut it short due to rain on Sunday. This part of the Appalachian Trail is the MOST BRUTAL part of the trail. We had a lot of elevation gains; some were small, medium, and some huge! We underestimated the trail and our abilities. We started the hike late on Friday due to life... got 7 miles in from Unicoi Gap to Tray Mtn shelter. Eat, slept, nex...t morning pack up, got water and did 13 brutal miles to Dicks Creek Gap. Addis Gap was the most BRUTAL. It was straight up up up for a mile or so. It took me 40 minutes. We met and chatted with several thru hikers who seems very eager to be on the trail with their gears and all smiles. I was very happy for them. Most were retirees who can afford to be away from life for 4-5 months. ** Lesson I've learned on the trail. Our bodies are very efficient! It's built to survive. No Matter how tire or depleted. As soon as you get rest, food and water you are ready to go again! ** "Slow and steady win the race!"
