- Curiously enough, tokirock happened to choose this "kewpie" (An character of Japanese No.1 mayonnaise company) T-shirts today with a slight thought of a person who gave her this as her birthday present a few years ago. Then, he appeared to ...tonight gig at Shimokitazawa THREE for the first time since he left the band...ex-guitarist So! Life is interesting really. Our show will start in 30 minutes and we have to prove him that the band he belonged was something which deserves to give of himself for more than 3 years! Meer weergeven— met Ninomiya So.

As you may already know, mothercoat members are sharing house and our own studio and harvesting vegetables and herbs in Fukaya City, Saitama prefecture in Japan.
An article about our life in a bonjin_house(the name of the shared house) nam...ed after our own record label "bonjin_records" is now available on Metropolis, the Japan’s No.1 English magazine.
Please enjoy having a read through this very interesting article!!!
Let's take a peep in the article here -
"It all sounds idyllic and hippy, and certainly a far cry from the rock and roll fantasy, though there is a long tradition in rock of recording in houses—Exile on Main Street, Led Zeppelin IV, OK Computer to name but three. The Downward Spiral was famously recorded in the house where Charles Manson’s “family” murdered Sharon Tate. It’s hard to think of Trent Reznor or Keith Richards planting broccoli and harvesting dill."

Mothercoat contributes to the frst free compilation album of "FECKING BAHAMAS"
A math rock focusing blog media called "Fecking Bahamas" has been released recently. The writers are from all over the world and mainly from another blog called... "Musical Mathematics". They decided to release an compilation album "Fecking Bahamas I. Japan" on May 6th, 2014 which is focusing on Japanese math rock as their first project and mothercoat are to contribute to this.
Mothercoat haven't been categorized as "math rock" ever but actually when we performed in SXSW 2014, we found that some audience called our music as "math rock". We are recently playing the setlist mainly from our latest EP "5 - 1 + 1 =" and those shows seem to let the audiences have impressions of "math rock" and the timing of the release of this compilation happens to lap over the math era of mothercoat which we feel interesting and something welcome.
All the bands contributing to the compilation are down below. The compilation is free so please feel the "now" of Japanese math rock.

March 18th, 2014
We had slept until noon from the last night festival here in Super Happy Fun Land(SHFL).
Today is the very last day of this SXSW Texas Party Tour - tomorrow we are flying back to Japan. We're gonna miss... Texas, that we know but we are happy to get a place to come back through this tour really. We've met so many lovely people and we now have a clear reason to come back here to meet them again which is the most important result we've achieved in this tour!
So we're going to return our rental car to the airport so we needed to clean up the car which had been messed up until then with pieces of breads from which we could save money by making sandwiches by ourselves with what we got at walmart and H.E.B.!
Brian presented us with a pizza which was great and so kind of him. Tokirock wandered inside and oustside the SHFL and found a good space to scribble something to leave the evidence of our appearance here. Hope someone would find it and remember us... she also had a good opportunity to look around the cute used clothes with Oliver, Brian and his daughter and got a little souvenir back to Japan.
We thought there're only 2 bands playing...whysowhite from Chicago and us, but there came another band from nowhere which was very welcome. Whysowhite is a band whose sound check was done the most elaborately among the bands we have seen in this tour. They even had their own monitors and lighting equipments that we were impressed by the fact. There were not many people around there so we thought the tour would end in a little bit lonely mood but there were decent amount of people before anyone knows until when we play...there were faces which we saw at the first gig here which made us so happy. The gig was we think the best one in the tour....the people were sitting at first because there are chairs like a theater but most of them were standing in the end. We gave an encore of the same song we played in the setlist because we learned that we could play the same one at encore if there were no songs to play at the showcase in Elysium...playing the same song at encore was fun much more than we expected. The monitor environments outside Japan tends to be rougher (depends on the venues obviously but for the capacities of the venues where we typically play) but we think we could fit to it in much more better way through the tour. We appreciate that we could get gigs-harden through the environment because we are a bit too pampered by Japanese monitor environments and tend to undue focus on the monitor sounds.
Our T-shirts were sold out except for S sizes until this day so we decided to bring more bigger sizes T-shirts when we tour in the US again, but members from whysowhite got those S size T-shirts! We would like to tour each local area of the US of the bands we met in the tour sometime soon really!
After the gig we ate very good began chilli cooked by Oliver again and fulfilled which made us so happy. We had to finish packing, our baggages should have reduced but they didn't that much because of souvenirs we got...we had a few hours nap and headed for the George Bush Intercontinental Airport. It was the day we didn't have any shows so we could get a chance to take a breath.
We would sleep like forever if Gigadylan woke the rest up until 3pm....
There was a hope of us to eat a big steak while ...we're in Texas.
We asked people who we had met for a recommendation of steak houses but their answer were such as they don't really go to 'steak house'...reason varies from being vegetarians to financial one, but maybe it was too much tourist like question which is typically difficult for local people to answer because they don't often go by choice. So we searched on the web somewhere affordable for us and found a place called 'Steak House Salt Grass'.
We went there and found it very much crowded from Monday which surprised us. The place was pretty nice but it was hard to tell which side dishes cost extra charge in the course and some of us failed but the kind waitstaff reduced the price because we didn't understand. Thank him very much and we would like to be back someday with less money worries...
Then we headed for Super Happy Fun Land in Houston again for staying a night there. They are so helpful DIY venue and we ended up to stay 4 nights there by grace of them! That night was Saint Patrick's Day so every staffs wore something green there. Even the beer were colored green which surprised us a lot. Saint Patrick's Day is not common in Japan so we were so interested. Oliver gave her Saint Patrick's Day boobs to Tokirock which was so funny. We watched the bands playing and relaxed in the couches, enjoyed Oliver's great stew meal and fell asleep...heaven on earth! Meer weergeven - <SXSW TOUR DAY 10>— met Jun Irimajiri en 2 anderen. We had a show at Beaumont on the day, so we woke up early.
It was the day to leave host family so we did cleanup and collect laundry then said goodbye to Chris before he went to work. Then we woke up Rac...hel when we leave and said goodbye to her, Leo the dog and Sergey the cat (already to Maria the cat last night, she rarely appears).
After 3 minutes drive from their place, we heard wired noise from the engine and the car stopped...so-called out of gas. We tried to fill gas last night after the gig but somehow our credit card cannot work after midnight so we thought it would be OK until early next day.....we started to push the car to the closest gas station and one woman in white talked to us stopping her car...she seemed to be a nurse of the hospital where we stopped. She said she would call for help in the hospital which was so nice of her....and came back with a regretful look...she said the hospital didn't have a gas tank that there would be nothing she could do.
We said thank you to her and started to push the car again. Junpei started to run to Rachel despite it's quite far for running. Before Junpei came back, one guy stopped his car next to us and offered a help. Such lovely people Texas has!!
He went back home and got a gas tank for us. Fuku and Jun stayed for Junpei and Gigadylan and Tokirock went to the closest gas station with his car? He talked that his younger brother also performs as an official performer of SXSW this year and we enjoyed the coincidence. He helped us out, he was so nice to pouring gas from the tank to our car without regard to his hands got dirty. Junpei also came back from Rachel but it was a bit too late. We thank a lot to him, he was so nice to receive our CD for the memorial. We then went back to Rachel to give the tank back and she laughed and enjoyed the second goodbye from us.
We headed for Beaumont this time and arrived at Texas Rose Saloon.
There we met a coordinator of the event Olivia. We started to set up the stage because we were the first one to play that night. This time the band who would play next to us let us use their drum kit but the guitar amps won't come. Olivia thought we only need one amp, it happens because she had to take care of many bands....there were very nice couple there and they said they would be back with their mini amps in 10 minutes. It was past our show time so we were worried but there amps arrived and we could start performing at last!! The Beaumont looked very much enjoyed with our music and many of them bought us much beers which made us so happy!! We enjoyed other bands playing and the soccer game and billiard there. Some of the bands including us went to Olivia's place to spend a night and it really helped us as always. Those DIY event people are really respectable and they are no doubt the driving force of indie music culture. We met many of those kind of people, and many of the bands we met also said they could tour on the bounty of those DIY venues and eventers. Back to Olivia's house...her place is a gallery space and seemed to share the house with other uni students. The room we slept had full of paintings on the wall and it was a sight to see....so inspirable atmosphere. We got quality sleep that night. We had one house show at David's place and we had been looking forward to this because we were supposed to play right after Roz and The Rice Cakes but when we checked the event Facebook page we found our ...show time seemed to be moved some time later so we went to ACC to look around instrumental exhibition. We could try how the voice sounds from TELEFUNKEN's microphones(Some of their microphones costs like more than 10 thousands dollars!) and there were guitars made from tin can which looked so creative and cute.
We moved to David's place around 3 o'clock. Bands were playing in one of their room and garage alternately during the other stage is setting, but what we were so astonished is that they played quite big volume despite the house was located in the middle of residential area. We envied how people are generous to music(maybe it's special during SXSW??)!! This time, we were helped out by other bands such as Giant Battle Monster and Terra Alive for gears which we are so much grateful(They helped us in The Music Ranch as well)!
We felt like collaborating with David's rap in our new song called 'poacher' so asked David and he agreed readily which was so cool!! It was very enjoyable time to play with him and he teared his T-shirts at the end of his rap which made everyone there reach a fever pitch!! We sticked around for a while, tokirock bought Giant Battle Monster's pretty T-shirts there and we left there with saying goodbye to David because we had to go to The Liberty for an interview and another chance to play there if any cancellation of bands occured. Before we went to The Liberty, we went to a restaurant called 'Michi Ramen' (for someone interested in, it's located in 6519 N Lamar Blvd, Austin, TX) where serves Japanese Style Ramen Noodle. We pretty much enjoyed the meal there and everyone looked so interested in what they got.
We went to The Liberty then and gigadylan and tokirock had an interview with a blog called 'Nihongaku' which seemed to specialize in Japanese stuff and because we had several interviews before that, we think it was the best one we succeeded to convey what we meant in answering questions. We'll let you know when the interview is released on their website so please keep updated! Actually this day was our sounder Junpei's birthday so fuku and tokirock creeped out from The Liberty and went to downtown to get something for his birthday present. The Main Street in downtown was so much crowded shown in the photo below! The ice cream tokirock got at the convenience store was horrible and she wondered if the maker ever tried what they produced in the world....or is it problem of her side? We passed through where Bo-Ningen and Temples were playing and tokirock was surprised to find that place was The Latitude 30 itself where mothercoat performed their official showcase in SXSW 2007!! Because the building was wholly painted by British Music Embassy so it was hard to notice that the venue was The Latitude 30. We finally could find a T-shirts with an illustration of The Beatles for a present at a record store and went back to The Liberty. To our disappointment, we could not get Junpei before the date changed into the next day so we passed it to him after we went back to home... There were no cancellation of bands that night after all, so we just enjoyed Bryan's bands and it was so nice to see him playing the guitar and singing. We saw him playing the drums the other day...Bryan is a guy who does everything really! We said goodbye and thank you to him who really supported us in many showcases including Elysium one. We went to Whataburger which already became our now-familiar before going home and everyone looked satisfied! Junpei got a Triple Meat Whataburger again as his birthday present and T-shits as well later and he looked so happy. Meer weergeven - <SXSW TOUR DAY 8>— met Hitokazu Giga en 2 anderen. (4 foto's)

(Our apology to take such a long time to report SXSW...but they will be completed in time so please enjoy them at ease when they are posted!)
This day we had another official showcase - Japan Nite at Ely...sium.We went to Elysium for sound check around 2pm.
Because we were the first one to sound check so we helped setting up the stage and started sound check but we found one of the monitor was out of use...
There would be little hope to get another one during SXSW so we just gave up using that which was simple.
We moved to Austin Convention Center(ACC) again for artist lounge after the sound check.
Artists could get free drinks, amenities like wet tissue, sunglasses, backpack and even free massages but the waiting list was full till the last day.
We took photograph there all together and had fun then moved to a place called 'Snack Bar' to watch our host family Chris's band playing there.
They said in Japan Nite people would buy merch all the time so one of us needed to be at Elysium and it was Gigadylan this time.
The show was pretty enjoyable, it was really nice to see Chris playing the guitar and he was quite a good guitarist which surprised us in a very cool way!
We needed to go back to Elysium after a while so said goodbye to another host family Rachel who were there and she said she would be at Elysium later which made us so happy.
When we came back to Elysium we found that there were not enough people there so we split to hand out the small cards which had Elysium's address and our showing time and samplers on the street in front of Elysium shown in a picture below, to let people know we were headlining that night. Everyone seemed so busy to head for bands they wanted so it was sometimes difficult to hand out them but some people remembered when they saw us somewhere else in several days back and it was so nice to see them again and hear them saying they would be back to watch as again!
There were so many showcases around there no matter official or non-official, there were many major players who were invited by big sponsors such as iTunes, Doritos etc so it seemed very tough to get people there to one's showcases so it was natural for us to do the last minutes promotion like that because we came to Austin all the way from Japan for that.
The crowd went less when we played at 1am as headlining but the crowd there were very beautiful. They seemed to respond our sound in deep and we did our best. It was so ashamed that we didn't have any songs left to answer their anchor because we just had build our setlist with the new guitarist fuku so we just explained that to the audience. I heard that the event organizer Audrey got so mad about that and said we should have played something even it was the same song we had played in the stage...
We learned but we will have plenty of songs next time we play in the US! After the show merch were sold well so some members lost the chance to get a drink because we didn't know that bar would close after 2am...we learned that, too. It was so nice to find a guy in a photograph below, he was in ACC as a student volunteer staff of SXSW and he really made it to come to our showcase! After the madness at merch after the show - talking to people and taking photographs, gigadylan and tokirock had an interview with Oakley's crews. The crews were very organized but it was funny that the interviewer was pretty much drunk. But he asked us very sharp questions among which we had ever had in interviews during SXSW so we're looking forward to reading that in the near future. We'll share those interviews when they would be out.
No opening restaurants were found and we went to H.E.B. to get something eat this time! Meer weergeven - <SXSW TOUR DAY 7>— met Rachel Koper en 4 anderen. (9 foto's)

Today we had a meeting with a promoter from Los Angels in ACC so we woke up early. The meeting was fruitful and something very realistic but we were convinced that we have to manage cash flow for flight c...ost anyway if we would like to come back....it's tough but deserves investment...but still tough!
We went back home once and had Rachel's cooked beans, rice and tacos which we had bought before for brunch. We headed for The Grackle where "Japan Preview Show" was held. It was a beautiful day and there were 5 airplanes drawing letters in the sky which was so incredible and we enjoyed the acrobat flight a lot!
The gears and sound system were great and it was so nice to play outside again and our host family Rachel and Chris made it to come down this day(Rachel was so nice to come to The Liberty as well...she seems to enjoy SXSW fully every year not only music but film part as well).
Many people there came to talk to us with excitement and everyone seemed to enjoy all the bands this day so much. After we saw some bands we moved to The Music Ranch again. It got already dark so the campfire was already burning. The band played before us was awesome. Also the band played after us was awesome as well and perfectly palatable to us so it became our favorite band and they are called Roz and The Rice Cakes. We became friends and we were so happy to know that we would have another chance to share a stage again thanks to David Isick. We became friends with people involved with The Music Ranch as well. Many of them seemed to live around there and love that place. There was a carving artist called Trans there and we exchanged our EP with her work of using mirror! Also the boss Gino gave Tokirock a T-shirts with their logo mark! We would like to come back this place to play and see everyone there. We searched for some noodle shop to have dinner on the way home but failed and
went to Whataburger instead. People in Gatsby's Mansion told us about the charm of it but we found we did not get it at all before we had Triple Meat Whataburger....
Jumpei admitted that is the best hamburger ever he had eaten! Meer weergeven mothercoat heeft een link gedeeld.
