Happy Birthday to MSM faculty member, trustee and friend, Harold Bauer!

Bauer was born in 1873 near London, England. He began his studies as a concert violinist under the tutelage of his father. In 1892, Bauer traveled to Paris and studied... piano under Paderewski .

MSM founder, Janet Daniels Schenck, studied piano with Harold after her graduation from the Institute of Applied Music. This relationship had an important bearing not only in Janet’s life, but on the development of Manhattan School of Music.

In 1917, Bauer, along his chamber music colleague Pablo Casals, became the first members of the MSM Artist Auxiliary Board. It was Bauer who gave a concert in Aeolian Hall to raise money for our First Endowment Fund in 1918.

Today we are forever indebted to Harold Bauer for beginning the strong tradition of an outstanding faculty body here at MSM. Meer weergeven
