Hillary Step (now the Hillary Slope) is no longer a crux on Everest summit day...
This iconic Hillary Step is now the Hillary Slope. Photo courtesy of David Liano who summited 12 May. Three large rocks which are part of the mountain are gone as a result of '15 earthquake. Apparently it's become just abit easier to climb Everest.
Congratulations to all Himalayan Experience members and Sherpas successful Everest summit on May 13, 2016

Thurs AM Everest recorded its first foreign expedition summit of the season. British climber Kenton Cool (12th Everest summit), Robert Lucas and two Sherpa guides successfully reached the summit.
According to base camp officials, Kenton, 42, and Lucas, 53, stood at the top of the peak at 8:15 am becoming the first non- Nepalese expedition members to have climbed the Mt Everest after 2014.
Carlos Soria and Juanito Oiarzabal, two Spanish climbers, at Dhaulagiri BC. They are nearing two distinct mountaineering goals; 14x8000ers at an age of 77+ and climbing 14x8000ers twice! From Altitude
Nine sherpas 1st to top out on Everest in two years...
"A Nepali sherpa has led a nine-man team to the top of Mount Everest, becoming the first to scale the world's tallest peak from the Nepali side since a deadly earthquake in 2015 and a fatal avalanche the year before forced climbers to retreat."

"Amazing photo and video shoot in tough conditions - a very dry year and first ascent of the season before the fixed lines went up made for a surprisingly challenging climb!" - Jon Griffin
Dispatch from Dan Mazur Summitclimb and Summittrek at Everest Basecamp:
"Lhotse face reopens! Ropes moved to new position. SummitClimb team walk to base of face. Sherpas setup C3. Tomorrow we ascend!."
Colin Haley, Alpinist photographs Dylan Johnson belaying Josh Wharton as he stomps out a tent platform at 6000m on the north ridge of Latok 1.
"Snowy conditions on the route, with lots of big mushrooms on the ridge, and majority rule dictated that we descended the next morning. I’m not proud to have bailed off the route under perfect weather, but I’m pleased that we made it to 6000 meters, one of the better high points in recent decades, in just one day of climbing.”
Alpine Ascents International Everest team members Ben Jones with Jen Loeb and Mario Simoes cold and happy at Camp 2 before dinner this evening. "It's a little chilly (down suits) and windy but beautiful colors on the peaks as the sunsets."
Everest Basecamp Spring 2016 report from Caroline Letrange:
"We've reached Everest BC a couple of days ago. The icefall seems in good condition and loads have been flown by Heli to C1 for the first time, a great improvement since the tragic avalanche. Less teams but the spirit is strong and sceneries still amazing. Everyone is hoping for a good and successful climbing season."
Great photo and story from Wally Berg - Berg Adventures:
"The man standing in this photo is Lhakpa Gelu Sherpa from Namche Bazaar. When I first got to Everest he was the lead Icefall specialist. There was no SPCC in those days, and there was no coordinated, exclusively Sherpa work done on the Icefall route. But Lhakpa was the guy who liked to work in the Icefall and who became most engaged and directive with foreign climbers about route decisions . When we returned in 1990 w...e were surprised to see Lhakpa wearing an Army uniform! It had the Nepalese Army Everest Expedition emblem on the sleeve. Col. CB Gurung was the Expedition Leader and he had hired the best and put him in uniform! In the 1980's we loved the National Public Radio program "Ask Dr. Science" ("Ask Dr. Science, he knows more than you know...") In 1989 Peter Jamieson began calling Lhakpa Gelu "Dr. Icefall" and the name stuck for a few years. For us Lhakpa Gelu was the only "Dr. Icefall", but by the early 90's the term began to be applied to other Sherpas who specialised in Icefall work. Soon after that someone heard it differently and the term "Icefall Doctors" was born."
