Sherilyn What What about about
the the whole whole issue issue of of of swift swift swift
swift Justice? Justice Justice Justice Justice in in in in
watching watching? watching watching that that that press
conference of the prosecutors prosecutors yesterday?
yesterday, yesterday, yesterday, I I I was was was
was so so. so so struck struck struck by by by the County
County prosecutor prosecutor saying saying saying that that
that he he he had had had had other other other other
evidence evidence. evidence. evidence evidence. Everyone has
seen seen so so many many many camera camera camera angles
angles angles on on on on this, this, this. this, this. you
know he was was handcuffed handcuffed unarmed. unarmed
unarmed If if. if if there there there was was was a for
to recommit, it it was was not not a a violent violent crime.
crime. crime crime putting the neck neck he he putting putting
putting his his his his. his his his knee knee knee on on on
the the the the neck. neck. neck. neck. It It It was. was
was not not a. a permitted practice. Police training gets
into this can't why as a lawyer and as such a-team, why can't
there be a charge? Well, obviously, there can be a
charge I was struck by his attempt to referred to the
Freddie Gray prosecution and to suggest that he needed to take
time so that there would be a guilty verdict. Of course we
all know in Minnesota. Philando Castile was killed in July.
There was no charge until November and he was still found
not guilty. We have a racism problem in this country and it
is deeply embedded with our system of law enforcement and
and the the police police police Andrea Andrea Andrea
Andrea you you you you. and and and I I I have have have had
had had had so so so so many many many many. of of of these
conversations and and honestly honestly my my head head is is
reeling reeling that. that we're here again four and.
Years later, just even hearing the build up and hearing
Christian Welch talk about the President. having a news
conference today here we go again with Charlottesville
three different times. The President comes out until he
said something that's passively decent. This is not a test for
the President. He has already failed the test with the tweet
that he put out this morning that is bizarre horrifying and
absolutely an abdication of leadership. and at this point I
only want to focus on what is happening with the Joyce George
Floyd prosecution I too. Don't like to see the looting I feel
for the people I feel for the businesses I feel for the city
of Minneapolis, but as you pointed out Andrea, I am a
lawyer. I believe in the rule of law and I said years ago
that if the rule of law is to prevail, then the people have
to see some Justice. I'm losing credibility when I talk with my
own community about the importance of letting the legal
system run its course If it always produces a result that
is unjust that how can we tell people to have faith in the
Justice system? What you're seeing out on the streets of
Minneapolis is that lack of faith in the Justice system,
and it is the lack of faith is is justified. not not. I'm not
justifying looting, but the lack of faith is absolutely
justified by what they have seen in the Justice system in
this country. and so I don't wanna talk about looters at
this point. I wanna talk about an officer of the state
licensed paid for with taxpayer money given a gun and a badge
and the right to take human life. I wanna see
accountability. For what we saw on that video and I don't wanna
hear about delays and I don't wanna hear about other pieces
of evidence. If he hasn't you should release it. I'm still
waiting to see the police incident report, which has not
been released. I want to know what do those officers say when
they return to the precinct. What did they say it happened
and how does it contrast with the video? So I wanna see more
transparency from the state's attorney more transparency from
the mayor and I wanna see a focus on this reality that is
killing killing us us in in this this country. country. It
It is is not not what what happened. happened last night
is killing us. But the toxic poison of racism, our
democracy, cannot survive and the exploitation of it by this
President is a shame, but the truth is it was there even
before he took office.
