After adjusting the policies of the previous administration, Attorney General Jeff Sessions instructed the 94 U.S. Attorneys offices to partner with state and local law enforcement in order “to specifically identify the criminals responsible for significant violent crime in their districts. Once identified, the U.S. Attorneys offices must ensure that these drivers of violent crime are prosecuted, using the many tools at a prosecutor’s disposal.”

West Virginia's attorney general has filed a brief on behalf of a 21-state coalition urging the U.S. Supreme Court to hear arguments against Kolbe v Hogan. The states have asked the Supreme Court to hear arguments against a Maryland weapons ban that infringes on the rights of legal gun owners by prohibiting the sale, transfer, and possession of certain semiautomatic firearms.

The "good reason" clause in Washington D.C., which resulted in issuing only 126 carry permits as of July 2017, was a violation of the Second Amendment and unconstitutional. BUT they don't agree, their 61 pages of arguments for why the right to bear arms shouldn’t apply in the nation’s capital can be summed up in a single reason: “we’re different.”

Even with many legislatures still in session and numerous pro-gun initiatives on the move, the NRA has landed all of the year’s significant wins to date, and the opportunities that were missed this year will be revisited until success is achieved in coming legislative sessions.

Why do you carry?

Gun buy backs are a misguided and ineffective tactic for combating violent crime. With no expectations that turn-ins will affect crime, the very least the organizers of these anti-gun rituals should be expected to do is to follow the law and not actively harm public safety.

Just after 4 AM, an alleged burglar broke into this man's home.
Thankfully, his dog alerted him to this threat and he was able to grab his firearm and hold the subject at gunpoint until authorities arrived.
