I went in to take the FE-other exam today and was turned away despite having a valid ID. I had my name changed recently (a minor change from Hathaway to McPherson- Hathaway) due to a court mandate in m...y family, and NCEES would not accept my ID. This is the same ID I used to vote in the 2016 election, which was accepted there. It was also accepted by law enforcemen t. I've contacted them simply to reschedule the exam so that I can get my name updated and they refuse to waive the fee, even though I used legal identifica tion.
It's too bad I'm going to be a profession al engineer and have to obtain a licence through this inconsider ate organizati on. They only want your money; they don't care about you. See More

I am one of the unfortunat e older engineers who had to completely rebuild my record with NCEES. To say the task was arduous is an understate ment. Even after this, whenever I need to request records fo...r another state license, the process of updating employment takes weeks due to the NCEES review process. I strongly suggest the process of review and approval be streamline d! Having been a licensed engineer since 1992, there should be more common sense introduced into the review process. Someone should be able to approve record updates within 24 hours at most. Please get your system improved to better serve our industry! See More

For years, I have advocated that my colleagues and subordinat es apply for an NCEES Record, as it was an efficient means to facilitate applying for and becoming licensed in additional states. With thi...s year's migration to the new system, my opinion has changed completely . I'm not a Luddite nor resistant to change, but I believe that many entities should strive to perform to their own version of the Hippocrati c oath, "First, do no harm..."
NCEES has not done that in the developmen t of their new system. I have been a record holder for 9 years, paid my annual fees, and then I get an email that says, "While we've been able to accomplish a lot with your data in its original format, it needs to be updated to an electronic format to meet the current needs of state licensing boards." Translated :....... We've been able to attach your name to a blank file and you will have to spend time and money to rebuild your record, (including new university transcript s for the same degrees that were originally verified and have been on file for years).
It would have invited complaint had you done so, but you could have let record holders know this 6 months before our records were effectivel y deleted. I wouldn't have liked it, but I could have worked on the process a little at a time, and it would have been within my control to complete that by the deadline and avoid being without a record.
This was not pro-active ly communicat ed to me - I found out about it when I attempted to have my record transmitte d to an additional state.
Two thumbs down on how this was handled!!! See More

I'm going to advise every licensed engineer I can to avoid bothering to transfer their old records account to the new record system due to the hassles created during the switch and their poor response... to our complaints . The lack of access to our old records and references is unacceptab le. NCEES has effectivel y proven they do not understand the function of the record system to licensed engineers nor how to properly address our complaints . Continuing to assure me that there is nothing wrong with the new system is not a fix!
I was a big fan of NCEES's support of the SE license and supported their initiative s. This has greatly hurt my opinion of their organizati on. See More

I agree with all the negative reviews and so do all the engineers I work with. What I also don't agree with is having to request transcript s from all the universiti es again and having to pay those fee...s on top of the 24 years of renewal fees, just to have you ditch all my informatio n that we were paying YOU to keep up with. Not cool NCEES. See More

Since the NCEES has switched to their new records systems I have not been able to get my record sent to the final two states I need to be registered in all 50. I have maintained a record with NCEES fo...r close to 15 years and while highly upset that I had to completely rebuild my record I worked through that process. I have since been told that my work experience from 25 years ago is inadequate and that I need to list more projects and I'm still waiting feedback my work from 20 years ago.
The NCEES has created a mess and can't seem to figure out how to fix it at this point. When I received a email from them telling me how poorly the transition has gone and if I would like they would rebuild my record I asked that they please do so. The response I got back was that the email had gone out to over 2500 people that they felt that since I had already started rebuilding my record it would probably be best if I finished it on my own. Only to then find out that they would be slow to review my updates and ask for more informatio n on a record that has been sufficient to satisfy the needs to 48 states. See More

I completed the record in 2015. Paying all fees for record, renewal and tranmittal in 2016. Payed for a record transfer before the system change for electronic record two months ago. At this time no... record transfer available for the Board I'm applying for PE by comity.
You must read all the reviews of electronic record before you decide to make an electronic record with NCEES. Its better applying directly to the Board. See More

Every engineer should go in and check if their record was successful ly migrated over to the new system. They force the migration if you order a record to be transmitte d for licensure in a new state. ... They botched mine up and are asking me to resubmit everything . Very poor handling. The organizati on must not be run by engineers. See More

An associatio n that self regulates, and chooses its testing model; as well as provides preparator y classes (correctio n, they do not provide teaching material but sell practice exams) for its own produ...cts. This is dangerous to the practice of engineerin g IMO. A separate entity needs to be involved in the grading or question policy, such as ASCE. I will and others should too know that paying higher and higher cost for exams and prep classes can become like our colleges that are jacking up prices daily, because people must pay. Not happy with the products I purchased from NCEES as well either (this is purely opinion, I passed this exam first try, but I would not recommend their practice exams). See More

10 years of NCEES record maintenanc e gone overnight. Zero accountabi lity and and very poor customer service. What's to stop them from doing this all over again every few years? Poorly designed, poo...rly explained and poorly executed new records system. The lack of a plan (and seeming unwillingn ess) to truly link an existing record and update it under the new system is inexcusabl e. See More

It is very shady that NCEES charges applicants $50 to cancel an exam if they need to request special accommodat ions and did not do so when initially registerin g. There is no mention of this potential ...charge in the disability guide. Also, their customer service representa tives are not available during the posted hours. (They are supposed to be available until 5pm, and when I called at 4:40pm, they had already shut down the phone system.) When I finally spoke with two different representa tives, they were both worthless. See More

If you are a member please reach out to the board and let them know that you are upset by the decision to throw out old engineers because we used paper when we resisted.
Some may not understand the s...ignificanc e, but what if all drivers licenses, birth certificat es, college transcript s, etc. were discarded because it was just too difficult to move over paper copies to electronic copies? See More

I'm preaching to the choir here but need to add my frustratio n, nay, fury, over the required "re-applic ation" to the new system. It's not the typing in of years and years of experience (although that... is annoying), it is digging up old references that makes this task virtually impossible . I have been paying NCEES $25/ year, like everyone else, to avoid EXACTLY this inconvenience. When I read NCEES' Stef's response to Jilly Moore, the "change is inevitable " comment blew my mind. There is a huge disconnect between what service the NCEES thinks it is providing and why we are using NCEES if they believe that this reapplicat ion process is trivial. See More

Let me get this straight. I pay NCEES money to maintain my records and transmit them to other state boards at my request (for another fee I might add). But wait they decide to change their web site.... Now I have to provide them with informatio n I gave them just 6 months ago. I completed my record February of this year. Locked out of my account for 2 weeks when I see the new web site for first time. Been trying for over a month to get my record transmitte d to another state. Customer service must have been trained by the DMV.
I paid for a service but I get no service. See More

To Mr Jerry Carter, Mr. E.Davis McDowell P.E and the entire NCEES body:
The national council in which you delegate you executive power for the advancemen t of Engineerin g is great. However, if the N...CEES is charging a fee of $ 50.00 every time one wishes to practice the FE exam, I don't see how that is fair to the college student who may not have the means to spend 50 dollars every time they wish to practice. On Top of the $225.00 exam fee.
It would be a fair deal if that purchase gives you the opportunit y to practice more than one time. Use your power to benefit and advance the educationa l opportunit y not just for the sole purpose of business.
Thank you.

As a civil engineer, I have to say that my feeling about NCEES is objectivel y complicate d, good feeling and bad feeling at the same time, from different perspectiv es. The overall experience to me is b...etween 3 to 4 stars.
On one hand, I am satisfied with the procedure that NCEES set up for evaluation and exams. After all we are talking about the most official engineerin g credential system across the states, therefore I totally understand the redundancy for paper works, communicat ions, per se, even though some may arguably be unnecessar y. A bit of delay should be expected here, and seems normal to me. The quality of the exam is pretty good to me. I can see the efforts they have been put behind these exams. Cost, obviously, is kinda pricey. Generally speaking, if everything going well when applying for the exam, it definitely worth 4 to 5 stars.
When there is something not going well, on the other hand, communicat ing and fixing the problem is where I usually get the glitches. The emails back and forth, and following up with previous ticket, which does not fix my issue at all, usually give me headache. From this perspectiv e, I cannot rate more than 3 stars to match my past experience .
Well, that being said, I am satisfied with the procedure and exam, but a little frustrated with the customer service when there is an issue, especially when it needs a timely manner action. In stead of simply complainin g, I would like to see if there is a way I can maybe help NCEES to be better? Volunteeri ng position to improve their system? That is an open question.. . See More

They lost my records that I submitted for the record applicatio n because they just happened to go through a migration/ upgrade when I applied. Very unprofessi onal. Just apply directly to the state you ...need to apply to and don't waste your time. Worthless service. See More

I'm still confused on why it takes so long to grade a scantron.. .NCEES could provide raw score at least (that way you could find out if you bombed and need to start studying). The wait for the PE resu...lts is a killer. See More
