One of our NU member recently wrote this blog to demand accurate portrayal of history of an oppressed section of his country.
Will you be upset if German parents asked to remove the history of the Holocaust in Germany from your child's history book? Something similar is happening with respect to the oppressive history of people numbering 200 million today. Please consider signing this petition.
This is the kind of introspection everyone with privilege should be doing. Not just Race privilege, we need such exercises on Gender Privilege, Class Privilege, Privilege of not being targeted due to sexual orientation, the privilege of being able bodied etc.

Come and meet David Albert, Board Chairman of Friendly Water for the World, a non-profit based in Olympia, Washington, that teaches people all around the world to teach people simple, affordable ways to clean their own drinking water without chemicals, moving parts, electricity, all made of local materials. David has worked all over the world for the past 40 years, though his main work has been in Tamil Nadu, India.
Friendly Water for the World was founded... in 2010, but has a prehistory going back to 2006. We currently work with communities in Kenya, India, Burundi, Rwanda, Ethiopia, DRC-Congo, Uganda, Zimbabwe, Sierra Leone, Tanzania, Afghanistan, Guatemala, and Honduras. Most of their projects are in the very poorest of communities, communities that have been virtually ignored by the larger charities, international organizations, and churches.
David will tell stories from the field in eliminating typhoid, and stopping a cholera epidemic.. Learn how you can contribute, volunteer, and make a hands-on difference.
Two Indian immigrants in Seattle sit down for open and honest talks. Each one from the different end of India's caste system. Read how the discussion transformed and educated the privileged one and opened up the path to deeper connection. As the author(privileged) recognizes the on-the-ground reality, new avenues open up for both of them. Leading them to a world where they are allies instead of adversaries.
