Saturate NYC

Quite possibly the most beautiful act of worship ever was the moment when Mary of Bethany poured out her treasure of pure nard upon Jesus. Desperate to express... the inexpressible, she soaked His head and face with the exquisite perfume and then wiped His feet with her hair.

ABANDONED LOVE - ABSOLUTE WORSHIP - HOLY SATURATION

We pray that these songs, our desperate attempt to express the inexpressible, might inspire you to saturate Jesus with your worship and saturate the world with His love.

New Hope Community Church, Staten Island was live.

Pastor David Beidel’s letter of resignation from New Hope Community Church.

Dear Friends and Members of New Hope Community Church,

It was 26 years ago on Feb.... 14th that Rebecca, myself, our parents and a handful of friends prayerfully began a church in our living room on Staten Island’s North Shore. From the beginning we had a great desire to bring the love and hope of Christ to this forgotten corner of the borough that had been decimated by the crack epidemic.

It has been a challenging, often heartbreaking but ever glorious journey. We have seen the wondrous love and power of God displayed and we have felt the intense opposition of the enemy. I need to say without pretense that my beautiful brid,e Rebecca and my precious children have endured inordinate challenges and bizarre demonic assaults for decades. Although our relationship to New Hope is changing, I ask that you keep us in your prayers. I believe that there is a special crown in heaven for the wife of an inner city pastor. She has been my greatest support and source of encouragement.

In the attached sermon from last Sunday, I expressed what I am about to write more fully. It was a bit of a walk down memory lane and an recounting of God’s calling upon our church.

Our mission statement for nearly two decades has been:

We are here to rebuild a heart of worship...to rebuild true community...and to rebuild cities and nations.

We really longed to love Jesus as He is worthy to be loved. We longed to love each other and our community with His love and we longed to see His love fill the earth.
As a small church in a community plagued by violence and drugs, we were well aware that the third part of our mission statement had idealistic overtones. Nevertheless, we had no doubt that God was with us and for us. He had specifically promised us from Isa. 49 that somehow our little church in the hood would be a “light to the nations.” Last year as we helped to spearhead Saturate NYC and Jesus Week, we began to see this dream rapidly unfold. Nearly a million people in our city were impacted by the Gospel as hundreds of churches and thousands of saints worked in strategic unity to share the great news of God’s amazing love.

Recently, I was asked by two large Christ-centered and passionate city reaching organizations to work with them to spearhead Saturation movements in NYC and in many other cities throughout the nation. They have asked me to help them replicate Saturate and Jesus Week initiatives everywhere. Right now, God is building a powerful team of people and ministries with a passion to see the gospel saturate and transform every city in the United States. Christ For All Peoples is printing 60 million Jesus film DVD’s to bring the matchless story of Jesus to every unreached household in America. Every Home for Christ is prepared to send millions of beautiful tracts to every city we reach out to. CRU - the largest Christian ministry in the world will be partnering with us in every city that they have a presence in. The foundation that provided NYC with 300,000 books last year is ready to support us in every city reaching endeavor. David Bryant of Christ Now, Dimas Salaberrios of Concerts of Prayer, Mission America, The American Bible Society and thousands of churches are aligning to bring the Gospel in word and in deed to every broken city in America. The Saturate App we’ve developed will be used as a means of sharing the gospel and blessing each of these cities. The Saturate Model which is based on John 17 and Acts 1:8 will be utilized as a blueprint to foster city-wide collective impact

The Lord has opened a door for ministry that is unfathomable. Rebecca and I, New Hope’s Governing Board and the Metropolitan District of the C&MA have full confidence that God is leading us to fulfill part III of our calling.

I will remain president of Urban Hope and continue serving in our community and working in partnership with New Hope - but with a heavy heart I must resign my role as senior and lead pastor of New Hope Community Church. It would not be fair to all of you. I have been stretched quite a bit over the last two years. Although this transition will be heartbreaking and bittersweet to me in many ways, I am very excited to see who God has appointed to be fully now engaged as lead pastor for New Hope.

Pastor John Saldanha will continue as interim lead pastor with Rev. Yeathus Johnson, our Assistant District Supervisor from the Metropolitan District. The governing board and pastoral search committee is prayerfully seeking someone to fill the position of Lead Pastor. Of course we first looked to Pastor John to step into this role. He has been a greater executive pastor and faithful friend that I could ever have imagined. After much prayer, John has declined the offer. He handles the administrative responsibilities of New Hope and Urban Hope. This is a very difficult position for anyone to fill at this time and adding to his load at this time would be impossible.

We may be heading into an extended period of time in which God does not immediately reveal his choice. I have seen that these times are vital for muscle building in the Church. Every member and friend of New Hope has a critical role to play in the health of this body and the furtherance of God’s kingdom. It is easy to rely on a long term pastor. I truly believe that as the entire body of Christ rises up to acknowledge and embrace their calling as a “Priesthood of Believers,” the Lord will do greater things than we could even dream.

My prayer is that all of you will together finish what has begun in this church and in this community, and that you would pray for and in any way that you can, support this extension of what God has called us to accomplish in cities and nations.

I do love and cherish all of you. I will continue serving until the end of April. It has been my joy and honor to be your pastor for the past 26 years.

In Christ Alone,

Pastor Dave

Sometimes the verse of the day hits you like a ton of bricks. I believe this simple "saying" has the potential to heal our divided world. Paul's saying this ap...plies to me and "all." Imagine if the Church could operate from a position of zero moral superiority paired with absolute abandoned tender hearted love for what Jesus has done for us. Love that overflows in every direction...
Yup. I'm totally preaching from the verse of the day this Sunday.
