I know I've been a bit (a LOT) quiet over here, but rest assured things have been happening. MANY things.

A couple of years ago I decided to refocus my musical journey, asking myself where I wanted to be in ten, or twenty years time. A musical journey is a very personal thing, and what works for one person does not work for another.

As a result, I have been composing a lot for ballet and contemporary dance, and for short films, and I am currently studying a Masters of Europea...n Music (NAIP) at the Prins Claus Conservatory in Groningen, NL.

A big part of my new focus is composing for new settings, and in new ways. With this in mind, along with Thys from Noisia, and Setareh Nafisi, we are embarking on a hugely ambitious project for string quartet and live electronics with companion films. And we need your help!

Please, check out this Kickstarter page, and see what we are all about, and we would love your support.

And if you are interested in any of the other work I have been doing recently check out www.nicholasrobertthayer.com, or on Instagram @nicholasrobertthayer

:: a thousand cuts ::
-----------------

For those who have been following me on here for some time, here is the sort of thing I have been up to recently. If you... are interested in joining me on this musical path (and frankly I would LOVE that), probably the best way is on my instagram @nicholasrobertthayer

It brings me incredible joy to be able to share this piece with you all. This is an intensely personal work, and, I hope that, in the words of Sibelius, this “music speaks where the possibilities of language end”. Or, to paraphrase Rothko, that perhaps you and I can meet each other as we walk together these halls of harmony.

This was a part of the Three Reflections project, and was CERTAINLY not achieved alone, and I want to extend my deepest thanks to those without whom it could not have happened: my fellow reflectors Setareh Nafisi and Thys; the wonderful quartet Olaia Oliverri Anna Csukly Melisa Del Be Lucia Gregov; to Hendrik Walther and Frouke ten Velden for their work on the live show; to Anouk van Kalmthout for this beautiful artwork; to my brother Theo Robinson for the graphic design; and the wonderful Kickstarter backers who breathed life into this project. There is also a beautiful film coming to complete this piece from Brandon Bolmer, but that is still about a month away. For now, thank you for listening.
