The Minister of Health in Kurdistan rejects the Human Right Watch Report data about FGM in the region!

PNA: The Kurdistan Minister of Heatlh announced that investigators from Human Rights Watch have visited him previously, and that he told them that only 30% of women in some regions have been circumcised, as opposed to the 70% rate suggested by the international human rights watchdog.
Dr. Tahir Hawramy told Peyamner News “Researchers from HRW told me that they have visited Garmyan and Palingan regions and interviewed elderly ladies and women older than 22 years of age, and shared their findings of 30% circumcision rate and 70% non-circumcised.”
He added “however what the organization has published is an injustice since the actual ratio is quite opposite to what appears in print.”
The minister also said “Throughout my medical practice I had no case presenting with complication from female circumcision, such as infection or bleeding, which shows that the condition is rare.”
The HRW publication shows that 70% of Kurdish women have been circumcised.
