THE SEVEN PILLARS OF MARRIAGE
These are the cardinal principles upon which a marriage
relationship should be based in order to give it a solid
foundation that can make it endure and be very blissful.
- LOVE YOUR MATE
- ACCEPT YOUR MATE
- APPRECIATE YOUR MATE
- UNDERSTAND YOUR MATE
- SUPPORT YOUR MATE
- WORSHIP WITH YOUR MATE
1. LOVE YOUR MATE:
Spiritually, socially, physically, mentally, a person will
glow with a better radiance when such experiences
love. Indeed love is vital for survival and this has
been proved by medical research. For example, any
baby denied affection will be emotionally dwarfed.
When love fails in a relationship, marriage will fall into
ruins, resulting in frustrations. Juvenile delinquency,
adult crime, alcoholism, drug abuse and even suicide
have been discovered to be products of love failure in
Marital love can be expressed in 3 (three) dimensions:
Erotic love – This love emanates from the body. It is a
desire for intimacy between two opposite sex. The
satisfaction of sexual needs is a vital reason for
marriage. Both parties should satisfy that need.
Friendship kind of love. This love emanates from the mind.
It denotes mutuality of interest. It is the kind of love
between friends. It seeks to want to help, encourage,
celebrate and enjoy the company of the other party.
Couples must learn to be friends before and after marriage.
They must enjoy one another’s company.
(I Cor. 13): Spiritual in nature. It emanates from the spirit.
It is God’s kind of love. All its attributes are found in I Cor. 13.
These 3 (three) kinds of love must be present in any marital
relationship. The deficiency in any of these will not bring
maximum satisfaction in any marital relationship.
