The Vintage Surf Meet
More than 100 vintage surfboards, and some of the UK's surf legends took part in the Vintage Surf Meet at Lusty Glaze in Cornwall on Sunday morning, making collector Al Lindsay's first event a huge success.
The Museum of British Surfing took part with 10 key historic boards ranging from 1920 to 1978.
Among the guests wandering round, the wonderful Gwyn Haslock - one of the pioneers of 'Malibu' surfing in Britain in the early 1960s.
Rod Sumpter was there, being reunited with some of the boards he shaped in the 1960s for people like Bilbo, along with Chris Jones who has been shaping boards through every design era since the logs of the Sixties to the present day, Roger Mansfield, and Yvonne - wife of the late craftsman Fred Bickers.
Collectors travelled from far & wide with their precious sticks, including Skelly & Jason Wassall from North Devon, Henry Marfleet from Kent and photographer Alex Williams from South Devon.
It was good to see the surf media there, with Wavelength & Carve - plus the whole thing was being filmed by the chairman of the surf museum trustees Rich Gregory & his team from Wavedreamer - http://www.wavedreamer.co.uk/ - we look forward to seeing the film.
Al plans for this to become an annual event, and everyone who took part is already looking forward to the next one - check his excellent Blog http://vintagesurfboardcollectoruk.blogspot.com/
Thanks to Alex Williams (http://www.alexcam.co.uk/) for the use of his photos - he's been one of Britain's top surf photographers since the 1970s & has a great book of his early work available online here: http://www.blurb.com/bookstore/detail/541356
