MBT SSW Recieves Special Visit From Former Dean's Grand Nephew

The School received a visit this week from Boston resident Gordon Krantz and his wife Melissa.   Gordon is the grand nephew of Dr. Herbert Aptekar, former Dean of the MBT School of Social Work (1969 - 1974).   He last visited Hawaii when he was 11 years old and had planned for a long time to return and to revisit the school that his uncle had helped to build.   Gordon carries on the family tradition as a practicing social social worker in Boston, as his father did before him.

Dr. Herbert Aptekar was the Dean of MBT SSW from 1969 until he retired in 1974.  Before coming to the School of Social Work, Aptekar had taught at Brandeis University School of Social Welfare.  He had prior careers in practice and administration, and as a consultant to schools of social work in India.
