With winter frosts causing grassland fuels to cure, we are beginning... to see grass fires take hold and threaten homes and other assets. This fire near Glen Innes burnt around 50ha on Sunday with firefighters undertaking property protection at a number of assets.
It is important to have a cleared and maintained line of at least 20 metres around your assets. If you are undertaking pile burning or having a fire pit, make sure you remain with the fire until it is out, and you have enough water to extinguish it, should it escape. See More
Even though we have seen some much needed rain and cooler temperatur...es over recent months, we still have the potential for fires. A grass fire this afternoon burnt out around 26 hectares at Tenterfield with the potential to threaten homes and the nearby airport. The fire is now at Patrol.
