I only had a chance to do a quick walk thru of the actual museum part as I was there to host in the large room that we had rented. But the parts that I did sto...p and read were phenomenal. Having been born and raised in the OC, It is a great opportunity to learn about my heritage. I plan to take more time next time I'm the area to really explore it. I highly suggest that this as an activity! See More

In January 2018, Oconee County will celebrate its 150th birthday!

In January of 1868, the Pickens District was divided, and Oconee County was created, with Walhalla being named the County seat. The name Oconee comes from the Cherokee word “Ae-quo-nee” meaning land beside the water. Oconee was a Cherokee town situated along the main British/Cherokee trading path between Charleston and the Mississippi River.

The Oconee County Sesquicentennial committee wants YOUR input on how t...o celebrate our 150th! We are discussing options and would love to hear your ideas. Please take a few minutes and let us know what you want to see in 2018.

All ideas are welcome!

Submissions should describe events that can occur in 2018, and should be sent by Friday, June 2, 2017 to the Oconee Parks, Recreation & Tourism office, 1099 South Cove Road, Seneca, SC 29672 or emailed to pshirley@oconeesc.com.

More information about the Sesquicentennial will be announced in the coming months.
