I'm truly thankful for all the amazing and heartfelt feedback on my latest work Vulnerable (Mark Otten Downtempo Remix), out now on Spotify and all other platforms!
The way you listen to music can have a big impact on how it touches you. Rarely have I experienced this more clearly than when I tried the new JADE box from Metrum Acoustics, a Dutch high-end audio company. Their special way of digital to analog conversion made such a profound difference to my regular soundcard that listening to music I already knew through and through felt like a whole new experience, discovering new details, drawing me in further. Wow, that sound.. There is... a unique clarity, warmth and depth to it. And somehow, it’s more calm. Being a producer, this is turning out to also have a big impact on my mixing decisions in the studio.
It’s a true privilege to be working with Metrum Acoustics so a huge thank you to the Metrum team! If you have a chance to check out their products, I’d highly recommend it - you can thank me later
About my new favorite fashion brand Seek 'n Hide: first of all these are supercool and crazy comfortable pieces. But second, it's sustainable all the way: how many brands you know that go the extra mile and actually travel to places like Equador to visit the workers that spend up to 2 weeks on one piece?? Handcrafted, fairtrade and organic. Be sure to check out www.seeknhide.net. Picture by Tristan Melano
Often, producers aren't credited as much as they could be in my opinion. Luckily in e.g. hip hop, more and more you see a mention of the producer in the title/artist description. This here is another good step in the recognition of a producer's work: more credit for the remixer
Sooooo.. I promised to bring you guys news before the end of the year, so here I am I am super happy to announce there will be new Mark Otten music getting released soon. Cannot give more details at this point, very soon I will though. It’s so touching to see how many messages, replies etc. I’ve received of people eagerly awaiting new sounds, thank you so much for that!
I wish you a splendid, musically awesome, healthy and most of all loving 2018! Hope to see you around, in person or online
[Producer talk] This week I am once again discovering the big potential benefit of separating the production and mixing process in making music.
In today's music creation, more often than not, the two are heavily intertwined. This is a beautiful thing I think because it can lead to new possibilities and sounds. It can however also keep you from reaching the best mix for your project. Putting your attention on only the end mix might be valuable for you as well
I played this Spektre track at my Forestland gig last summer and still love it to pieces. This is sooo exactly what I'm into right now:
Amsterdam Dance Event 2017, what a ride.. ADE once again made me realize why I love my hometown so much and what it's giving us. Such vibrant energy, you could almost touch it. So many beautiful (spontaneous) connections. Such inspiration.. so much to be thankful for!
