I love this!! It's brilliant: They've taken the casual chillness of an open mic night and fused it with the competitive edginess of a battle of the bands. Put it together with cool venues and Celebr...ity (we use the term 'celebrity' quite loosely here 😏) Guest Judges, and you've got something that quickly became my favorite weeknight activity. :)

This is brilliant for a number of reasons. First off, the competition aspect scares off some of those who may decide to play at a normal open mic... which, let's be honest, we all are extremely grateful for. (Sometimes y'all just need a tiny bit more practice is all ;))

Second awesome thing is that the winner gets half of the door money. Which is bad-ass. I especially liked this rule cuz my husband's music is pretty cool--fact: it's effing amazing--so he's won a few times. :)

Last thing I'll mention is the exposure and connections. If I you've had much experience in the music industry, you'll know that exposure and connections are everything. Musicians are always looking for new ways to get there music out there.. and just hoping that maybe, eventually, the right person is gonna hear it and be at their apartment with a recording contract & a pen. Anyway... most really good musicians are pretty terrible at marketing, so what Brad does to market both OMF and their performers is a really big service.

Anyway, I haven't been there in a couple of years but I just ran into some videos of Jake and friends of ours playing there and it got me all nostalgic and shit.

Miss y'all.
