As an African American who's been making a living traveling all over the U.S.A from Alaska down to G...eorgia and in between working in different National/State/City parks. Doing trail mantenance, fuels reduction with chainsaws, working with plants, building bridges(construction) as well as leading crews and camping at times for work for 8 yrs and going its really awesome to see us outdoors enjoying what mother nature has to offer. I hope we as a community can get our friends, family's and neighbors to be able to come out and not be afraid of whats out there. Ive hiked mountains and been up close to glaciers, ive helped out with natural disasters from floods to fires to hurricanes! There so much to see out there. Take the chance Take the opportunity!!

Much needed! Back in the early 2000s I worked as acquiring editor for The Mountaineers Books, in Sea...ttle, WA. It would have been great to have you as a resource to encourage more diversity in images and understanding our love and experiences in the outdoors. Great going! See More
Quite possibly one of the most progressive organizations I've ever had the opportunity to be a part ...of. To unify communities by exploring and expanding our connection to nature and the Earth is truly a vital and noble cause. Rue Mapp is pioneering a new science which seeks to heal and tie us together as people. I love her work and you should all join us sometime. See More

Learning how to swim opens up a lifetime of opportunities and joy.

However, research has consistently shown Black youth ages 5 to 19 drown in swimming pools at a rate more than five times that of white children. This public health disparity is our legacy of decades of segregation and exclusion from public pools and beaches.

Outdoor Afro is committed to changing that. Our rapid response swim grants are now open to ALL AGES. Apply today!...

For many, fostering new relationships with nature and outdoor recreation starts with their children.
