The Montpelier Antique Show & Sale is March 24h from 9am to 4pm and March 25th from 10am to 4pm at the Montpelier Schools building. Bruce and I are unable to do the show this year due to my work schedule at H&R Block but there are some very nice dealers there.
You can sure tell people are suffering from cabin fever. We've had lots of people today and several things have found new homes. We'll be open tomorrow, too, so come on out and see what's new to the store!
We've had a lot of items come into the shop this past week. If you have a cup and saucer collector in the family, we have a large selection to choose from. Mid Century Modern fan? I think we have at least 3 of the tiered rolling kitchen carts. More postcards came in. We have a ton of quack medicine bottles. A perfect stocking stuffer for the medical person in your life, plus we have a veterinary syringe with needles. In the near future we will have some cool automobile literature. I just have to figure out the best way to display them for the dealer.
I just had the funniest couple in. He wanted the bear fur coat but "wanted to think about it". Wife says, "Buy it cause I'm not gonna listen to 'I should have bought it'". The coat is going on a statue that already has a fur hat. She said the statue is better dressed than her!
Booth EB has brought in some wonderful old Christmas ornaments and decorations. Booth 106 has stocked up on silver and coins. Booth JG has moved to a new booth and looks fabulous!
I have probably filed 1000 postcards the last 2 days. Lots of real photos of people and tons of souvenir-type cards. Only a couple of local ones, though. If you're looking for the postcards that were popular with CBers and ham radio operators in the 1970s, there are a boatload of those that aren't included in the 1000 card figure I mentioned before.
Time to get ready for the big pre-holiday/pre-tax season rearranging of the shop. Hopefully the mess we've had the last few weeks will be resolved and the new stuff that has come in will find a home, at least temporarily until it goes to YOUR home!
If anyone is looking for a business opportunity, Route 20 Antiques on the west side of LaGrange is for sale. It comes with the main antique mall, a second building they put furniture in and approximately 3 acres. Right along US20, on the way to Shipshewana. Asking price is $184,500. Their number is 260-463-0359 and the address is 0275 W US 20 LaGrange IN 46761. A nice smaller mall and most of their dealers haven't left yet as they are hoping for a sale and a new owner that wants to keep it a mall.
Just a quick reminder that the car show will be downtown this evening and traffic will be rerouted beginning at 3PM, I believe. The city parking lot across from me is already blocked off and will have food trucks and kids' activities. Cars will fill W Maumee St from my corner all the way uptown, around the circle and elsewhere.
