Did you know The Coalition for Homelessness Intervention and Prevention’s annual Indianapolis homeless Point-in-Time (PIT) count found the amount of people homeless in the city increased by 10% – which is the highest homeless count in the city since 2014. Currently, 1,787 people are without homes, according to CHIP.

But I bet what you didn’t know is the thing homeless people need most… is SOCKS.

CIERC started the "Operation Warm Toes" to help collect new socks for a month to donate to the Horizon House. On Wednesday, CIERC members Leah Brearley and Cris Miller dropped off the box full of new socks as part of "Operation Warm Toes". During that time they were given a tour of the facility and information on what ACES can to do help the Horizon House through various other activities during the year.

ACES held its first ever Volunteer Appreciation Day on Wednesday, December 13! We celebrated all employees that participated in the various volunteer events that our Community Involvement and Employee Recreation Committee organized throughout the year. Several employees shared stories about volunteering and talked about why they are passionate about community involvement. Then we had a pizza party! We look forward to expanding our volunteerism in 2018!

ACES joined Keep Indianapolis Beautiful to plant shade trees in the tree lawns along Denny Street and Chester Avenue, part of Indy’s Near Eastside community, on Saturday, October 10th. City trees help reduce the effects of storm water runoff from pavement and other impermeable surfaces, providing relief to the combined sewer overflow system in Indianapolis. ACES was excited to be a part of this high-impact project and KIB’s 10,000 Trees initiative!

After volunteering at the Humane Society, CIERC decided to have a little fun with " Whose pet is whose". Employees had an opportunity to guess which employee owned what pet. We had 45 submissions, and the employee to guess the most right pets was Karissa Ferland!
