Frank & Cathy Addington always enjoy the annual West Virginia Bowhunter’s Association Awards Banquet. Frank was on the founding board and they are the first husband and wife duo to be inducted into the WVBHA Hall of Fame.
The Addington family wants to acknowledge our late friend Fred Bear’s birthday today. He was a family friend and huge influence on our family and our business. We all miss Fred. His smile, his humor and his amazing stories.
Frank Jr. Posted this on social media earlier today:
“The late Fred Bear was the Babe Ruth of archery. He was the face of our sport for generations and perhaps archery’s greatest promoter. Although he passed away in 1988, the sport is still being in...fluenced by those of us who try and follow Papa Bear’s tracks. I spent hours with him as a kid fascinated by his stories, entertained by his jokes and listening to his advice on our sport and how to market and promote it. When I give a celebrity a bow, do an archery exhibition, a media interview or give a talk on Archery I am simply following his lead. As the old adage very truly said, “Fred Bear Showed Me How..”.
More than anything I miss Fred’s sense of humor and the way those shoulders would rock when he laughed. Today would have been his birthday. As Ted Nugent’s song says, “In the wind..”
Our friend Bud Forte at the Wheeling, WV Cabelas has retired. A great man, congrats Bud and enjoy your retirement! We are sure you will find many opportunities to hunt and fish now! Enjoy.
Here’s Frank Jr with Bud a few years ago.
A walk down memory lane..
Randy Daniel sent this to us today. A flyer from this event..
So we hosted a HUGE event at the shop in 1981/82. We dubbed it the Bowhunter Jamboree and had over 500 shooters. Tom Jennings, Rev Stacy Groscup and many more were there. We had concession stands and all kinds of vendors and people....
Were any of you there?!? This was before today’s shop was built. The shop was in the Addington’s basement at that time.
Post any memories or photos you have..
Winter blahs getting you down? Chances are Frank will have coffee on and a fire going this time of year. Come sit by the fire and share a hunting story or two with us.
If these old stones could talk.. hundreds of folks have sat by the fire here since 1984. Our hours are Tuesday - Friday 10am until 7pm and Saturdays 10am until 5pm.
How many of you have enjoyed sitting around this fireplace over the years?!?
Stop in and see us! You can also pick up a Gift Certificate while you are in. These are always very popular at Christmas.
We are open tomorrow 10am until 5pm. If you need a stocker stuffer try our Addington’s Bowhunter Shop gift certificates. A favorite since 1980!
We also have bows and accessories in stock. Come see us!
Otis and Grace Addington, Frank’s parents. His father served in Patton’s 3rd armored division in WWII.
We’d like to thank all the vets and those that wear our country’s uniform. Heroes !
