The Old & New - Bold & Blue: The Art of the Harpsichord concert was co-sponsored by the Ackland Art Museum. The program began with a short, stop-motion documentary, "Birth of a Harpsichord". The concert followed with the Preludes of Francois Couperin interspersed with new Aliénor winning compositions, as well as other compositions that payed homage to Couperin. Harpsichordists Elaine Funaro and Beverly Biggs performed both solos and duos on their contrasting instruments; the new and boldly painted Kingston Opus #333 juxtaposed with the elegant, late-baroque, French double manual. After the concert, there was a panel discussion with Opus #333’s creator, master harpsichord maker Richard Kingston and the instrument’s painter, artist Lisa Creed, as well as filmmaker Andrea Love.
Aliénor is pleased to issue a Call For Scores to encourage the composition of solo music for harpsichord and chamber music for harpsichord with modern or period instruments. Visit our website for guidelines and entry form.
We are currently gathering information from musicians nationally to put on our website. We want to share information about activities focusing on the “contemporary” harpsichord such as concert announcements, news about new CD’s and scores, and YouTube links. If you would like for us to include any relative, up-coming activities that you may be involved with please email us the details.
