"It will be a legacy site and something that will be a significant gateway asset to the city."
One of the first things I got really excited about after getting onto the foundry property in the winter of 2007 was the idea of salvaging odd parts from around the plant for a future public art project that might be installed on the site itself one day. Giant gate/arch or finsterbikes-esque tower. Anyway, no one i spoke with at the time could hear it. And I was also told that a similar effort was pursued when Wheland closed. An effort was made to set things aside for art projects as requested by someone - I don't know who - and no one ever came and got the stuff so there was also little faith that an artist would followup. So, when I asked.. none of the stakeholders were interested in warehousing an idea like this at the time.
