A few years back, an acquaintance of mine asked if I was a Bills fan yet. He, like myself, grew up in the New York metro area and relocated to Buffalo. He was a... Giants fan. I never would've known that because of the pride and devotion he had for the Bills. My football life growing up was weird. My dad was a die-hard Oakland/Los Angeles Raiders fan and when I was old enough to start going to games myself, I started going to a lot of Jets games. Football is like that though, you can have your favorite teams because you watch so many different teams on tv every Sunday. It's a unique fan experience that other sports don't really get to offer. I still love the Raiders, very much so, and I still find myself checking the score of the Jets game hoping to be pleasantly surprised, though usually disappointed. When the Raiders decided to suck this year I was bummed out but there was this buzz here in Buffalo that the Bills might actually make the playoffs. It got me hyped. Most of my friends are Bills fans. I live in a Bills community. I got into the rush and it made me happy to see my friends and family enjoying this push. When Dalton threw that TD pass to secure the Bills trip to the postseason, I high-fived then hugged a best mate of mine as we jumped together like little girls. I'll be the first to say, Bills fans are a unique breed. Y'all scare me. But it was not until New Year's Day morning that I was truly upset that I wasn't an actual Bills fan. Andy Dalton has been tweeting updates about how much money the #BillsMafia has raised for his foundation. See, Dalton didn't realize at the time what he was doing. He was on a 4th and long. Less than a minute to play in a meaningless game for Cincinnati. I'm sure that he didn't want a division rival to go to the playoffs based on a Bengals loss, but touchdowns like that are few and far between to be seen as enough motivation for a personally meaningless outcome. That's when the donations started coming in. One by one, donations of $17 started to come through to Andy Dalton's Andy & Jordan Dalton Foundation, one dollar for every year of the Bills playoff drought. It was a simple gesture, a thank you. See, Buffalo sports has always found a way to let down the Buffalo sports fan, but those fans are always loyal through the ups and downs, they never waiver their loyalty. A foundation may seem more important than clinching a playoff berth, and it is, but the Bills are so much more than a sports team here. It's Sunday morning beers, it's Sunday afternoon meals, it's watercooler talk, it's ugly sweater parties, it's adolescent shenanigans, it's Every Time I Die shows, it's family get-togethers... it's life. Andy's foundation is also important to me with a very close-to-home reason. The foundation is for families with sick children. Some of you may remember the SGW fundraisers we did, where my wife and one of my best friends, Chris, put together similar fundraising. My son Sebastian was born and lived his entire life at Cincinnati Children's Hospital, one of the hospitals that Andy's foundation directly works with. I won't get into his story right now because this is a happy moment for Buffalo, but the connections with what's been happening the past 24 hours have got me so emotional. So it is very good to know that the money being donated for a simple touchdown is helping kids and families like mine. To answer the question of if I'm a Bills fan yet, not yet but I sure am humbled and honored to be a part of their world. Thank you Andy and thank you Buffalo. See More

"My husband and I surprised our two-year-old daughter and six-year-old son with a trip to the first Night In The Jungle event. We all had such a blast! We were a little worried about it because our son has autism, but he loved it! The volunteers were all so friendly, Andy and Jordan were great hosts and it made for a really comfortable atmosphere. Lots of fun games/activities and, of course, we got our picture taken with Mr. Andy (as my kids call him). James, my son, said "I ...want to be Mr. Andy's friend and go to another one of his parties!" Leila, my girl, said "He tute!" (that means cute for anyone that doesn't speak two year old). My husband and I love the foundation and what they do. As parents of a special need child we know how high medical bills can get and how quickly they can get out of hand. The fact that Andy and Jordan use their voice to help these kids and families is just amazing." - Amber Henderson #TestimonialTuesday
