~ What do you do when you have nuisance wildlife issues with small mammals?
~ AZ Game and Fish will provide self-help tips which may include safely trapping and relocating the nuisance critter(s).
~ Time to release them? Remember these few things:
Use gloves, towels, and other protective clothing....
If the animal looks sick or injured please call Game and Fish.
Release near a water source and in similar habitat.
Release only a few miles away from capture site and of course not near other houses.
Do not try and capture large mammals or predators.
If you have questions, you can visit the Game and Fish Portal at azgfd.gov or call an office near you. M-F 8am to 5pm.

Great conservation effort in our own Regional backyard!!
~ Only the 2nd Elk translocation for Arizona. Elk to Kentucky in 2000 and West Virginia in 2018.
~ Arizona received 83 elk in 1913 from Yellowstone after the native elk, Merriam's, went extinct. Two more translocations followed in Arizona which helped establish our current elk populations.
Some Arizona elk soon will have a new home. AZGFD participated in a joint conservation effort this week, capturing 60 animals east of Flagstaff to help West Vir...ginia to reestablish its elk population. The animals eventually will be transported to the Tomblin Wildlife Management Area in southwest West Virginia. https://www.azgfd.com/arizona-elk-heading-east-to-west-vir…/

WILDLIFE NEED WATER
~ As this dry winter continues, our Wildlife Managers (WM's) are hauling water to critical locations on the Kaibab Plateau in Northern AZ.
~ WM's have hauled over 20,000 gallons of water to sites in Game Management Units 12 A & B.
~ These catchments are critical in providing water to many wildlife species during dry times.
~ If you see or witness any vandalism to these waters, please call the OGT Hotline @ 1-800-352-0700.
In mid-Dec. AZ Game and Fish Officers (Wildlife Managers) assisted Utah Dept. of Natural Resources (DNR) capture 40 mule deer in Hunt Unit 12B. The captured deer were given a health evaluation, had blood drawn, received ear tags, and all were outfitted with new GPS collars to study their migration patterns into Utah over the summer months.
The collared deer will give Utah DNR and AZGFD valuable migration information and contribute to the management of this deer herd that moves between Arizona and Utah.
