Watch our ministry video of Cortney Fountain, Heisman Johnson, Bre Beecher, our favorite Youth Pastor Ryan Lamb, Jessica Stone-Lamb and Wanda Stone as they fulfilled the calling of going to the Dominican Republic this summer!
Baxley FUMC Youth ministries are underway, We ended the summer with a great time of worship with surrounding churches and dedicated our hearts and lives to the call of Christ! Come on Sundays for Sunday School at 10am, Sunday nights at 5pm for a time of ministry and refreshing, and on Wednesday at 6pm for a time of digging deeper into God's Word.
The youth had a busy night serving at a dinner and a movie. Special thanks to Loretta Lasky, Bridgett Johnson, Michelle Allen, Jim Graham, and Shirley Phillips for the hard work and support!!!
Pastor Thad's service this first day of Lent was inspirational and with a little help from the Lord with His "technical difficulties" He gave us an example of how we can simplify our lives during the Lent season. The message today was on repentance and how we need to not hold things in. We need to open up our hearts for ourselves, for others, and especially for HIM.
Mardi Gras means "Fat Tuesday." It refers to the day before Lent starts. Since Lent always starts on a Wednesday, the day before is always a Tuesday. And it's called "Fat" or "Great" because it's associated with great food and parties.
This is an article from http://www.upperroom.org:
Ash Wednesday, the day after Mardi Gras, usually begins with a service where we recognize our mortality, repent of our sins, and return to our loving God. We recognize life as a precious gift from God, and re-turn our lives towards Jesus Christ. We may make resolutions and commit to change our lives over the next forty days so that we might be more like Christ.
What a great service last night and what a wonderful way to begin the Lent season worshipping our Lord as a Youth Group. I found a few interesting facts about the Lent season. The next few posts will be comments about it. Have a blessed day!!
Lots going on, be in prayer for our Youth Pastor and His Wife as they travel to the Dominican Republic next week to prepare for the Youth of the church to go down in June for a mission trip.
