General Information
Saint Teresa of Calcutta is one of the newest parishes in the Allentown Diocese. It is comprised of 7 parishes: St. Canicus, St. Fidelis, St. Casimir, St. Jose...ph, Sacred Heart, Assumption BVM, and Our Lady of Siluva. It was founded on July 15, 2008.
In February 2009, the church underwent major renovations to unite all 7 parishes as one. The mural is the focal point of the unification. All of the former parishes are represented by their saints. Starting counter clockwise on the photo of the mural: Jesus Christ represents Sacred Heart parish, the Blessed Mother represents the parishes of Assumption BVM and Our Lady of Siluva, St. Joseph, St. Canicus, St. Fidelis, St. Casimir. Finally St. Teresa of Calcutta represents our new parish as a whole.
Next to the church is our newly renovated Perpetual Adoration Chapel. It is opened 24 hours, 7 days a week to anyone who wishes to pay a visit to the Blessed Sacrament.
During her visit to Mahanoy City, PA in June 1995, Mother Teresa blessed the former church of St. Joseph's with her presence at a mass in her honor. The first pew in which she sat is now marked with a plaque in her memory.
