This might not be a popular post--but, I'm going to beg parents to not post pics of their younger kids partially naked on FB. Time and time again, I have seen i...nnocent pictures of random children partially naked on a pedophile's computer --- they get arousal from those and save them. I cringe when I see y'all post these types of pictures. Please- think before you post those-- I only post this because of all I have seen in my line of work and because I care.

A Blount County jury has found Michael Eugene Wade, 25, of Blountsville, guilty of Rape 1st. The conviction relates to the June 8, 2015, rape of a 20 year old victim. The State presented evidence in trial that after reporting the matter to law enforcement, the victim made a tape of her confronting Wade about why he raped her. Wade responded that "he didn't know why he did it" and that he was "trying to stop." He then apologized to her.

Rape 1st is a Class A felony. His sentencing is set for July 18. Wade has been incarcerated since his arrest. The case was investigated by Sue Ashworth of the Blount County Sheriff's Office. District Attorney Casey commends the work of Investigator Ashworth and encourages all victims of sexual abuse to speak out.

Blount County District Attorney Pamela L. Casey and Blount County Sheriff Loyd Arrington announce the arrest of Patrick Dorsett, 26, of Cleveland for the Capital Murder of Bethany Brooke Evans, 23, of Mt. Olive. Evans’ body was discovered shortly after noon on February 25, 2017, at Dorsett’s home off Tuscaloosa Pike in Cleveland. Ms. Evans had been shot multiple times.

Dorsett is currently in the Blount County Correctional Facility with no bond. The investigation is ongoing and no further information will be released at this time.

On February 16, 2017, a Blount County jury convicted Carlton Murray, 47, of robbery in the first degree, burglary in the second degree, committing a terrorist act, unlawful possession of a firearm on school property, an resisting arrest. Murray’s conviction stems from an incident that occurred at Southeastern School. On May 23, 2012, Murray entered Southeaster with a handgun and started demanding keys from school employees. Murray then exited the school and pointed the gun... at a parent in an attempt to steal the minivan the parent drove to the school to check out a student. Murray fled school property in an attempt to evade law enforcement but was ultimately apprehended by Blount County Deputy Jerry Hughes. The school was placed on a hard lockdown for approximately two hours due to Murray’s actions.

District Attorney Pamela Casey commended the Southeastern School administration for their immediate recognition and response to this potentially catastrophic situation. “This could have been a situation like we see on television. But for the quick action of retired Principal Michael Peoples, this could have turned out very differently,” said Casey. Sentencing is set for May 10, 2017.

On February 14, 2017, a Blount County jury convicted Jack Calvert 56, of Warrior, of 3 counts of receiving stolen property, operating a theft facility, and possession of marijuana. The property at issue included a Harley Davidson Motorcycle, a Ford F250, and a Chevrolet 1500. Blount County Sheriff’s Deputies and officers from the Warrior Police Department discovered the stolen motor vehicles on property belonging to Calvert while executing a search warrant. Calvert was also c...harged with operating a theft facility, commonly referred to as a “chop shop”, after law enforcement officers located multiple stolen vehicles on the property. At the time of his arrest, Calvert was also found to be in possession of a “personal use” quantity of marijuana. The State asked for and the jury found aggravators under Alabama’s new sentencing law. The Alabama Bureau of Investigation assisted in the identification and recovery of the stolen vehicles.

Casey indicated that she was pleased with the verdict of the jury and she appreciates the hard work of all the officers involved in the matter. Sentencing is set for May 10, 2017.
