Conference May 20-21, 2016
Salt Lake City UT
Produced by Coho/US and SageHill Cohousing
An FIC co-sponsored event
How are today's Boomers taking charge of their next chapter, reinventing aging through a community framework? How can cohousing empower the coming wave of retiring seniors to age successfully and have fun in the process?
How will your community approach what is a delicate topic: defining what community support members can count on as they approach end of life and want to remain in the community as long as possible?
Are you a member of a forming cohousing community, looking for tried and true tips from established communities to help you get your footing?
Join the Cohousing Association of the United States and SageHill Cohousing for the Aging Better Together Conference on May 20 & 21st in Salt Lake City, Utah. Hear from cohousing residents and professionals, and steep yourself in a weekend of dynamic conversations.
Hello my name is Janet McClenahan. I was part of a group that was together for about 2 years and created this Facebook page. I am aware that there has been a lot of interest lately, I have tried to respond to some people but haven't had anyone return their messages to me. If you have more questions about our group that is no longer functioning please Facebook to them to me and I will try to answer them as best I can.
Does anyone know of a cohousing effort here in Boise?
I personally am not aware of a group of individuals in the Boise area who are currently working on this. My friend Jonna added me as the administer when she moved to Sun Valley, after hearing that I was initiating an ecovillage project. I know very little about cohousing.
From what I understand she was involved in a large community effort to create a cohousing community here. I've heard that the group split, and eventua...lly dissolved, mostly because the visions of the founding group were not aligned. I heard it first split based on a differing community design/architectural concepts, and again when a location couldn't be agreed upon. Does anyone here know about this effort, or were you involved?
I am hopeful that this could still happen here, it would take commitment and determination from among a group of people with a shared vision. I'd love to see it happen!
I haven't heard much from members of this group to know if anyone is passionate enough to move into action.
THIS YEAR’S CONFERENCE promises an amazing lineup of offerings, from innovative approaches to developing new and affordable communities, to potent ways to enhance our vibrant communities.
WE WILL COVER cohousing basics as well as hot topics in sustainability, community building, and the evolving definition of cohousing. Our “next generation theme” will explore the new wave of urban, senior and agricultural communities, check-in with our now-adult children of cohousing, and celebrate communities that have thrived for over 20 years.
A PACKED AGENDA yes, but the conference allows plenty of time for networking, tours of cohousing communities, and fun!

Charles Durrett sent me a message to let me know about this training.
"This 5-day workshop will bring together professionals involved in
cohousing and senior cohousing around North America who are motivated
to look at the big picture as well as the particulars of budget,...
siting, and the other details involved in getting specific projects
This is the most comprehensive training available in North America to
help seniors plan for successful aging and create new senior cohousing
communities. Five days of hands-on learning with the world’s
premiere experts in creating cohousing."
I'm not sure who in Boise is motivated to start a cohousing community but it sounds like this would be a great opportunity for someone to learn the skills to be successful.
